Time to Write!

Time to write!

So it’s now officially less than ONE month until exchange fics are due on January 26th!! Draco and Ginny are busy writing… so how about you? They’re doing really well on their fics, and—

(knock at door)

Just a minute…

Oh. It’s that white van again, and they have the straightjackets this time. Bye!

A Christmas Present!

Ginny herself

This is (as far as I know, anyway) the first ever HP fandom texture for a piece of Poser clothing. Yay! Now, if you have Poser, Rhiannon's "Sugar Jamaz", and Victoria 4, then you can use it. :) Everyone may not have this. So if you DO, please email me and I'll send you the files; if you DON'T, then enjoy the pic! :)

Xmas Break

Yep, it's that time again-- the annual Xmas Modly Break! :) The queue will be closed for submissions from tomorrow (Sunday the 22nd) through Jan 3. Everybody can still leave reviews, however. ETA: The very last validated chapter before the Xmas break just went through-- Ginocide's See You Use Me.

GO AND READ EET.

There will also still be new news items, mostly relating to the fic challenge. So happy Christmas/Yule/Hanukkah (well, that's already over, but you know what I mean)/Kwanzaa/Feast of Saturnalia/Whatever! :)

And remember... D/G fanfic is what Christmas is REALLY all about.

Ginny: (putting ornaments on tree) I just love the holidays, don't you, Draco?

Draco (nursing a brandy eggnog) No.

Ginny: Why not?

Draco: If you'd ever heard the Dark Lord singing "Jingle Bells", you'd understand.

Ginny: (putting arms around Draco's neck) We just need to make some new, happy memories.

Draco: (adding more brandy) Mmph.

Ginny: I've got a present you can unwrap.

Draco: (brightening up) Really?

Ginny: It's furry and fuzzy.

Draco: Not-- it couldn't be--

Ginny: A new teddy.

Draco: (embracing her) Ginny, I can already feel the scars healing from the Yuletide when Voldemort forced everyone to eat fruitcake.

SO HAPPY HOLIDAYS, EVERYBODY!!!

The VERY LAST Day of Prompt Picking

Click to see a larger versionBetween Metal Walls

Hey all,

This is THE VERY LAST DAY to pick your prompt for the D/G fic exchange. So if you’re one of the last holdouts (and you know who you are… well, if you’re reading this, you know who you are…)

DO EET.

I THINK the full version of the pic above should be SFW, but you really never know. If you work at the NSA and you're going through pics, you could just say that it has something to do with national security. :) Otherwise, well, Ginny is a little scantily clad.

See what Draco is going through? Don’t let this happen to you!!

It's Down to the Wire!

Slightly Perhaps NSFW

Click on the above to see the pic... it doesn't SHOW anything, but depending on where you work, it may not be the best idea in the whole world to have it on your screen. ;)

It’s Day 9, and y’all, we are getting down to the wire. If you’ve been thinking about sending in a prompt for the fic exchange, THIS is the time. If you already have sent yours in, then now is the time to convince someone else! We can only do this with YOUR help!

And BTW… this HAS to be my favorite pic so far. Just use your imagination about how Draco got there.

The D/G Essay

Hey all,
Remember that essay? "Why D/G Matters and
Always Will?" Well, I've been trying to get that entire thing posted, because I think we really need a modern D/G manifesto on FIA... it's important and...

The entire folder containing it disappeared from a USB drive.
(cries)
(rages at the universe)

I'm going to see a computer expert I know on Monday. There may be a way to save it. For now... it may be a while before the rest of the essay comes out.

ETA: And if anybody's been reading *Taxi Driver*... guess what. That was on the same drive.

This is the first one in two years, and I'm putting LOTS... AND LOTS...of work into it. Huge thanks to the 2 comods, dykeadellic and sempre_eadem. (hug)

So here's what to do now.

Submit your prompt describing the fic you’d like to have written for you. Here's the template-- and remember that the basic theme is rebirth/regeneration.

Okay, you have to go to the LJ page to find the template. ;) And the pic for Day 1 of the exchange is there too!!

We Still Need Contributions

We have a lot of exciting things going on right now. The fic exchange is starting in exactly a week! :) BUT...

I still need about $150 to pay hosting fees and to keep the site going.

Several people have already contributed, and they're all wonderful and profusely thanked and appreciated and they'll get gold stars next to their names, but I NEED more help here.

Y'all, if you believe in this site and in our future, PLEASE send Paypal contributions to:

dgfics@ gmail.com

Just remove the space in the email address, and you're good to go! ANY amount will help.

Tumblr, Youtube, Fic exchange!

Hey all,

We now have a tumblr blog!! Yippee skippee and yay. It's PAST time for us to be on there, so there we are. Find us at:

The Happy FIA Tumblr Blog

Thing #2:
The third video is UP on the YT channel!! I spent a lot of time on this, and I think I know where the next several vids are going (into Top 10 List territory-- i.e., "10 reasons Why D/G Still Matters, and Always Will."

Find the 3rd Video Here!

Thing #3:

The D/G Fic Exchange rules are almost ready. As soon as they are, I'll post them on the LJ and in various other places, and I'll send them and some guidelines to potential mods. IF YOU WANT TO MOD THE EXCHANGE, PLEASE SAY SO. (ahem)

Thing #4:
The podcasts will begin again very soon. I'm going to try to get at least the first two chapters of the essay up before the exchange.

More later! :)

Here's the Paypal address to send donations to:

The reason it's not clickable is that this is just ASKING to get spam.

So, once again, cut, paste, and remove those spaces, and send $ off to Paypal...

dgfics @ gmail.com

Paypal accounts are easy to set up, but if you don't want to, we'll figure out something else. Just msg me here.

And the D/G Fic Exchange.... BEGINS!!!

Yep, it's the official resurrection of the fic exchange. And yes, it's going to be on LJ at the same link below. NOT because I have any great love of LJ, believe me, but because that's where it's ALWAYS been, a lot of people follow that page, the rules are already there, and Seegrim, who used to run it there, is going to help us. :) So for all those reasons, LJ is the place... for now. So if you haven't been to that page for awhile, the link at the left hand bottom corner is what you need to click. It's not on all skins, but it's on most of them.

A few questions.

When to have it?
What should the theme be?
Any other ideas?

Scheduled Downtime and More

Hey all,

So there's a scheduled short downtime coming up... 10 minutes, 12 am to 5 am CDT on Sept. 7th. There's a very techy reason. Can I explain it? Um... Oo look shiny over there! :)

In further news, the FB Ficlet exchange is almost ready to go!! Keep watching for updates on that on the FB page and also Twitter.

And one more thing... those Affiliate Links will be changing very soon-- I don't think that either one of them has been active for awhile. For right now, we'll be doing links to the FIA FB page and the ff.net D/G group. More things will probably be added as time goes on (the WP blog, a Tumblr blog, etc... we'll just have to see! ;)

FIA on Facebook, and More!

ETA: The link now works!!! Just click on that picture. :)
Our FB PageFIA Facebook Ficlets

YES! In our continuing quest to become a truly mature and eternal fandom– because it CAN be done, it HAS been done, and I’m looking at YOU, Sherlock Holmes– we’re really getting started with that FB page. Click on the link above to see.
And be sure to like us. It's nice to be liked.

And I have invented a new thing! I call them “FIA Facebook Ficlets.” :) Is the first time anybody has ever thought of posting a ficlet on FB? Um… (looks around shiftily) Probably not. BUT… it’s the first time I know of that it’s ever happened with D/G. And I made up the name. :) Anyway, check out our page to see the first one!! “Ginny’s Wedding Ring.”

In the ficlet spirit, I'd like us to have a short-fic round robin on the FB page. Basically, authors will contribute a paragraph each for about 10-20 posts (depending on well it's going.) I'd submit the first post, and then it would be up to y'all. I know that some people don't feel comfortable using their FB identity for these purposes, so there are a few options: start a page of your own, start a new additional identity, or email your paragraph to me, Aphrodite, or idreamofdraco.

We'll have three required elements in each round robin. These could be location, an object required, a line of dialogue, a rating... dang, I guess we have to keep it to PG-13 on FB, which is another good reason to work on that WP blog... etc., etc., etc. This will happen right after I get back from vacation (in about a week.) But we need those IDEAS!

And I'll be figuring out the entire regular fic exchange while I'm on vacation, too. And the next chapter of *Taxi Driver* will be posted soon, too... Much more soon! :)

Fic Challenge and Summary of Ideas

Hey y'all! So here's a summary of what's going on right now in FIA-idea-world. :)

First of all, the ideas that we've gotten from members can be boiled down to these:

Facebook (new page)
Tumblr (new page)
Twitter: the wonderful IDreamofDraco is running this! :)
Fic exchanges/Challenges
Podcasts

The ones that won't happen right away, but I would like to keep working on them:

ETA: Wordpress has a plugin (P2) that kind of structures the blog page like a FB group. The advantage is that everyone who posts would have multiple options for signing in-- UNLIKE FB. So I think that's where we're going to go.
I might even reserve the name of the page now (www.dracoandginnyblog.com) More as events develop.
Youtube channel
Ofic forums for fanfic authors moving into original fics they ultimately plan to publish. This one's going to happen, y'all, and it'll be a separate Wordpress forum. But it's not going to happen right away! ;)

Now, for the challenge location...
EVERYTHING has pros and cons. I like the possibilities of dreamwidth. The problem is that they have a few issues of functionality to work out, and it would be a new thing to learn, which I don't think I can manage right now.

Facebook-- we're more than ready to have a page, but as IDoD pointed out, it has too many privacy issues to host a challenge there. Same with tumblr.

Wordpress-- we really need to have a blog there. That platform has unlimited functionality, basically. There's a plugin for EVERYTHING, including mobile apps, crossposting everywhere, unlimited pics and artwork, free quadruple chocolate cake to all members... (it's possible!) But RIGHT NOW, I have to admit that I just don't have time to add it. Also, I'm still trying to find a journaling plugin. But something tells me it's out there. ;)

SO... I think the way all of this ends up is that we should do the FIRST fic challenge on the forums here, and then decide where to host them next time. HOWEVER, news about it will announced on the fb page and other places. That seems like a good compromise for now.

THOUGHTS?? Questions? Comments? Snide remarks? :)

The Passing of the Torch...

Doesn't that kind of make you think of the Olympics? :)

Anyway. So I had the Ginormous Google Hangout Conference of Doom with Lyndsie, I took lots of notes, and some of them even made sense! ;) Wow, so many things to do in the near future. The votes for new features seem to be going towards fic challenges and contests. We WILL have those... I could use some feedback about if people want the LJ challenges to be revived again, or for it to happen some other way. I'm working on the podcasts, too-- I used to do voiceovers and I've done a lot of recording for Librivox more recently, so I do have the basic equipment, and I really want to see those come back. The return of the art board is probably just too much work right now. And if anyone out there knows how to do/wants to work on new skins, PLEASE let me know!! Because the techie code-y stuff is beyond me at this point. ;)

In a couple of months, I WILL start new forums for fanfic authors moving into ofic (original fic. Lyndsie came up with that. It is now a thing. :) They will be an affiliate site rather than being hosted here, but there will be links. I think this is going to be a HUGE resource for the near future, and very timely too.

What else... there's a facebook page that was started God-knows-when by God-knows-who, so I'm going to try to find out about that and maybe get it going again. I'd like to have more happy interfacing with the D/G group on ff.net... our BEST authors are involved over there. :) Youtube videos... new bursts of creativity... world domination... you know the kind of thing. I see things as really starting to move in September-- the fic challenges might happen then-- but I'll see what I can get going before that.

And if anyone has ANY suggestions, PLEASE share them!

Change of Ownership

Hello! As we come up on the 9th anniversary of the site, I hope that you are all ready for some bittersweet news. Mynuet and I have been discussing the site and it's future lately, and we came to the realization that we have been doing it a disservice by not being as invested in it as we should be. We both decided to retire, as it were.

But don't panic! We are handing over the reins to Anise. She has been a long time author here, and member of the Cabal since 2005, which is even longer than me! Most of the major decisions have been run through the Cabal throughout the site's history, so she has always had a hand in things from the background.

I will still be around as the site's Tech Admin, but I will be stepping away from the day-to-day running. Anise will come by soon to share her ideas to bring some new life here.

On behalf of Mynuet and myself, thank you all for making this community such a lovely place. We've spent nearly a decade with you all, sharing the love of all things D/G and we know we are leaving the site in good hands.

Back!

And we're back! Apologies for the downtime, everyone. I promise it didn't have anything to due with the donations or anything like that. The new host decided that they were no longer going support the type of account we had, and only gave 24 hours notice that they were going to transfer us to another company. There were some configuration issues due to the move, but everything should be good to go now. Let me know if you spot any problems.

Donations Update

We've received about a third of what we need for hosting for the year - $100 out of $300. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!

Please, if you enjoy the site, kick in as much as you can - it doesn't have to be a lot.

Posted by Mynuet on Jan 30, 2013 11:27 am (4 Comments)

It's that time again

Actually, it was that time back in October, and then in December when we switched hosts and I paid the upfront fee out of pocket, but we're still a good $200 of our yearly hosting fee. So please, if you still love FIA and want it to keep going, send what you can. By paypal you can send to donations@ this website's url (dracoandginny.com), or if you want to send money another way let me know and we can figure something out.

Let's keep FIA going for another year. :)
