Now that was an essay. I already had my speculations about Draco being the HBP, since I figured that the obvious choices (Harry and Tom) were just out of the question. This essay just supported them even more. You give so many clues and evidence to Draco's role in HBP. I have to agree in that Draco will eventually have a major role to play. You just can't create such a strong character with so little background information. Same with Ginny. I believe that book 6 will be an emergence of sorts as to who Draco really is. Also with the whole "Draco's Detour" chapter in HBP. Although I feel that some may be overanalizing this (after all, it could just be the name of a chapter where something fairly amuzing happens to him), it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be accounted for. As for the "pureblooded familes dying out issue", I think that this might be the case with the Malfoys. If you read the scene in which Sirius explains the family tree to Harry, you know that Draco and Narcissa are Sirius's cousins, but what of Lucius? His part of the tree is not included (nor should it be included), so how do we know if the Malfoys are as pureblooded as they make themselves out to be. I know it sounds a bit ridiculous as I'm chalkful o' conspiracy theories here, but your essay just gave mounds of plausible evidence to Draco as the HBP and the possiblity of D/G (I also have to agree that if there will be D/G, it will not be the fluffy D/G that most shippers are hoping for). And that fact that I ADORE the DaVinci Code and have researched into all of Dan Brown's accusations just as much as the next, convinced me of your daVinci link just that much more. Overall, excellent job! You made me even more of a believer! xoxox

You have come up with a lot of good points in this essay and I found it really interesting. I like how you could back up everything you wrote and its gotten me thinking about it.

I'm also LookingGlass on fictionalley. I enjoyed your essay, thought you made some really good points, although I felt you repeated a couple when you didn't intend to. I too believe that Draco will hold a very important role in HBP and believe your connection between Ginny, Draco, Harry, and Voldemort. I also agree that Ginny and Voldemort appear to have some unfinished business. However, your arguement lends, in my opinion, the inevitability that Draco will be used, but Voldemort, to work his evil. It may be the most plausible option, but I don't like it. There were many things that I wanted to comment on but I read it reather quickly without jotting down any notes. If you'd like, I can do a point-counterpoint for you. Ironic that you mentioned the Valentine's day scene in CoS as I am working on a story about it. Thank whoever selected the featured stories section for getting me back into writing for the fandom, though I can't guarantee that I'll post the story. Overall, a very persuasive and interesting essay.

Wow...I followed the link from the F&I thread, and I have to say I'm duly impressed. You gave me far too much hope for our beloved Draco, I'm afraid! But your thoughts and objectives were coherent (though you seemed to think they were not) and played out very nicely. It all made sense, and better yet, it all seemed logical. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

*Throws popcorn and dances around computer* Brilliant!! That's the word that comes to mind when I finished this essay. All of your ideas and points were absolutely shocking but eerily likely to happen. The part that had me floored the most was about the Ginevra de Benci portrait with the white ferret, i think thats just too much of a coincidence to be ignored! I must say though that when i read the part about Tom choosing Draco as his HBP, his evil twin of harrys, I couldnt help but feel saddened that Draco could turn completely to the dark side. It seems so likely to happen, especially how you described the reasons as to why, and it makes me think of how he had so much potential in fanon! This essay is truly impressive, and if you are correct in your hypothesis on what book 6 might bring, then i will be sure to call your psychic hotline!

Very interesting! Even if none of the Draco stuff turns out, I really think you have a good point about Ron. My eyes were buldging when I read all of his "predictions." I loved your outside references to the artwork, too! Though, I have to wonder how much of this is just coincidence. Very good essay! I absolutely LOVE it and it's got me thinking! Mars

Whew, very interesting indeed. You've certainly given me a lot to think about; your points all have plausibility, and I enjoyed the bit about the paintings. Like many other Draco enthusiasts, I'd dearly love to see more character development for our favourite little malcontent, and if this is the way JKR does it, then all the better. Well done.

When I first started reading your essay, I have to admit that I was a little skeptical. I mean, Draco? The HBP? He's supposed to be a pureblood, isn't he? Still, your writing kept me addicted and with all of the points you make and the evidence you have to support it, it's easy to see why you changed my mind. I enjoyed all of the examples of how JKR foreshadows in the books. I also was impressed with how you used the part from OotP when Neville informs everyone that Griselda Marchbanks never mentions the Malfoys. I have read OotP many times, but I never thought anything much of that remark; I never really looked into it too deeply. What I find truly fascinating is the fact that da Vinci has paintings of Ginevra and a white ferret. That was just mystifying for me. I also found out something else (because of course after I read this I went straight to JKR's website to the FAQ). One of the questions was about pureblooded families dying out and JKR replies by saying that in OotP Sirius said that no family is really 'pure' because they cross muggles and squibs off of the family tree and pretend that they don't exist. Because the Malfoys obviously aim for perfection, it is true that they could be not totally pureblooded, thus proving your point further. Anyway, I'll stop rambling now. You got me thinking and that's what an essay should do. Excellent write.

I did some editing for clarity and typos, which I hope is okay. There were three spots where you left a note for yourself to put stuff in - two "(quote)" and one "(CS Lewis reference)". Since I'm really curious about the CS Lewis reference, I marked them all with a double asterisk for you to find easily. As for the actual essay content, I need to think about it more before I can formulate anything to say, but it was an interesting read and I'm glad I pestered you about posting.

very interesting, i love reading the really canon based essays because it draws so many possible corellations that i hadn't bothered to look for before. this is very exciting and some of your points do makes sense. i especially am interested in the white ferret and the ginevra painting. perhaps draco is going to be voldemorts "pet" like the ferret to the queen.
