Lost Memory

I remember

I remember all our secret meetings
Our deception
Your masque hugging your porcelain features so delicately,
The ebony, silken threads hiding you from all but me

I remember all the night-sent letters
Our affair
“If kisses could be sent by letter,” you wrote,
“you could read my words with your lips.”

I remember all the energy you had
Our lust
the way your eyes would light up when you saw me,
the sparkling blue like sky and sea tossed together

I remember when you were alive
Our pain
The expression you held as the blood dripped from the wound
Inflicted by your wife’s poison-thorned rose

I remember

I remember
