During his sixth year at Hogwarts, Draco balances on a knife's edge of danger, at constant risk of losing his footing and falling into an abyss of darkness. He can't trust anyone at all... or can he? When it comes to Ginny Weasley, he's determined to find out.Category: Works in Progress
Chapter TEN quote of the day:
“Ginny, I didn’t lure you here for some underhanded reason,” he said, stroking the hand under his, glad that she didn’t pull away from him. “I swear I didn’t. I just… I wanted to be with you for a little while, someplace where nobody could find us. I think..” He hesitated, and then confessed the truth. “Ginny, I think I wanted to tell you these secrets all along.”
“Maybe.” Her mouth quirked up. “But you could have told me at the very start that this was your grandfather’s lodge, you know.”
“I should have done,” he admitted. “Honesty is not a Malfoy trait, Ginny.”
She rolled her eyes. “As if I really needed to be reminded of that.”
He enclosed her hand in his, feeling her small, strong fingers. “But I’ve told you the truth about everything now. You do believe me, don’t you?”
“Yes,” she sighed, moving back against the headboard, bringing him with her so that they were seated more comfortably. “I wish I didn’t. I wish I thought you were only lying, or even bragging, trying to make yourself sound more important than you are. But I know you told the truth.”
I'm very intrigued: finding stones, ancient magical oak trees, and a glimpse at Draco's relationship with his grandfather. I'm a sucker for teetering on the edge of the dark side Draco falling for Ginny. Can't wait for more!
Author's Response: Thanks! :) There's a LOT coming up... and even though this isn't really EXACTLY dark D/G, you're 100% right about Draco balancing on that edge. It's that feeling that he really could fall either way... anyway, there's more coming soon.
So mysterious! Is this magical tether Draco feels to Ginny one sided? She obviously likes him, but is she feeling the same draw as he is? Looking forward to more!
Author's Response: Thanks! :) Well... that question does get answered over the course of the fic... but I think it isn't giving anything away to say that Draco feels drawn to Ginny for a lot of reasons. And one of them is the terrible tension and strain he's going through from all the pressure put on him that year (let Death Eaters into the school and kill Dumbledore, or his entire family dies.) I've always felt like that theme was never EVER explored enough in canon. So Ginny doesn't have that particular motivation, and... that's all I'll say for now. ;)
