Nineteen Years Later... the Truth by Anise    (Reviews - 893)

What really happened in the DH Epilogue of Doom. Poor, poor Harry, so very clueless...

Chapter SIXTY-NINE quote of the day:

Ginny scowled at him. “You don’t know me very well.”

Draco shook his head, his eyes more sorrowful than ever. “No. I don’t. Eternity wouldn’t be long enough for that.”

“Why do I feel as if we’ve suddenly wandered into the set of a men’s cologne commercial?” complained Lucifer.

“Can’t you keep your damn mouth shut, Lucifer?” spat Draco.

“Please… really… I don’t think you should talk to him that way,” whispered Ginny.

I was reluctant to read past this point. They're finally back together - yay! But I know everything will get mucked up again soon. ;)
So I checked the end of the last chapter to see if there were any important author's notes, and noticed that this story is getting an overhaul. So I'll sit tight here on the edge of the Grand Canyon, and wait for you to work your magic. :)

Author's Response: Thank you! The rewrite project... well, basically, here's what happened. For a number of reasons, I decided that I was going to write my original novel based on the fanfics, Death Train. But I'd still like to finish a few fics, this being one of them.

Contractual Obligations by gidge_8    (Reviews - 751)

Selling herself into a marriage contract, Ginny finds herself playing a deadly game, ultimately pitting her husband against her lover and a father against his son. Many twists and turns, depth and evil characters - and a long story of sweet and true love.

New! Epilogue is up! Yes, I know, the story has been "complete" for a couple of years, but this ending has been partially written for a long time and it ties up some loose ends.

I love Draco in this chapter! So glad that he didn't kill Lucius; and so glad that Ginny was able to come back to herself so quickly (I wasn't really expecting that).

Author's Response: I'm so glad you like Draco! I often worried about him being too out of character in this story, but I really wanted write him a bit differently and make him more of a romantic hero. Sometimes, we just really want one like that. :) Hope you enjoy the ending too! :)

This story is truly wonderful! I just found it the day before yesterday. I don't typically read WIPs, for fear that the author won't finish; but I've read several of your other stories, and I really like your style. So it seemed worth the risk. ;) And I was not disappointed. I wish I could give a more detailed review; but it might be tedious since I have all 29 chapters to account for! hehe So I'll just say that I love that Ginny was finally able to stand up to Lucius. The last bit with Draco and Ron is brilliant. And I'm holding out for a happy ending - I just can't believe that after all this Ginny wouldn't pull through. I have a few speculations; but I'm eager to see what you've come up with next! :)

Author's Response: Thanks for giving it a chance. :) I'm so glad you like it. I think my original outline/plan was for this story to be about fourteen chapters long but I seem to have added to it a bit. The good news is that you won't be waiting long. I've gotten the next chapter back from beta and I hope to finish up the details in the next few days. I know how you feel about WIPs, and I've always sworn to myself to never leave a story unfinished. This one was just so long and complex that it just took a bit longer to weave all the loose-ends and sub-plots together gracefully. Thank you for your lovely feedback.

Distracting Ginny by CCC    (Reviews - 74)

The war rages on. Twenty year old Draco Malfoy is stuck at Grimmauld Place with nothing to do until Harry asks him to distract Ginny. Perhaps Harry should have been more specific about what he wanted Draco to do.

I am *begging* you from the bottom of my heart to include even a shred of happiness in the next chapter! lol :)
This was fantastic. Painful, but fantastic. I never saw this coming. How harsh was Harry, not even to let her kiss Draco goodbye or to let him finish his "I love you"?! I agree with some of the other reviews, that under normal circumstances Ginny would have put up more of a fight. But these were clearly not normal circumstances; and I'm pretty sure that she was just stunned by her family's behavior. That being considered, I love how unyielding she was with Hermione. Way to hold onto your bitterness, Ron and Hermione! I'm hoping that by the end of this fic they will be able to work through their grief enough to forgive. I really think that by putting Draco and Ginny through all of this, the truth will come out, and the Weasleys will have their doubts put to rest and be able to accept their daughter's new family. I just can't believe that Draco intentionally gave Harry bad information. I'm also counting on George to be the hero for Ginny, and go to Narcissa with what he knows.
Now I am going to read something happy while I wait for the next chapter. ;)

Author's Response: Well, I hate to say it, but you may have to wait a little bit longer for that shred of happiness. I'll have the candy dish ready at the beginning of the next chapter. :)

And thank you for the compliment! So glad I could surprise you, too. I was hoping that the readers wouldn't see this coming. And yes, Ginny is definitely not a wallflower, but she is wandless and kind of shocked that her family has betrayed her. And thanks for noticing her strength in the Hermione scene. Your comment on Ron and Hermione made me laugh.

I hope you found something really happy to read. And I look forward to reading your next review! :)

I will be holding my breath until I find out what the deal is with the vial breaking! This chapter was wonderful (just like all the chapters before it). I love the way Draco and Ginny handle themselves in this chapter. I like George here, too. He loves Ginny, he loves Ron and the rest of his family, and he's supportive of the Malfoys as well. He really doesn't have a lot of information about what's going on just yet. He's just kind of a safe, neutral person who has everyone's best interest at heart. I think they all need that.

Author's Response: Well don't do that! No answers on the vial for several more chapters. Sorry.

Thanks so so much for your super sweet compliments. And I like your take on George - it's spot on. More to come soon!

I love this story; and am so happy to have an update. :) I'm glad that things are moving along in the "outside world." Draco and Ginny fluff is always okay by me; but I'm also anxious to see them get out of the house, and merge their new family w/ the ones waiting for them on the outside. :)

Author's Response: Thank you for reviewing. Really, it's not getting a lot of attention so each review means the world to me. I'm so glad you are enjoying it. And the fluff-fest will continue for a few more chapters as the outside world really heats up. And then you will def get to see them outside the house. Thanks again!

THANK YOU for the update! I check (way too) often to see if there's anything new. ;) I am very nearly holding my breath waiting to find out what happens when everyone finds out that Draco is indeed alive (and married to Ginny). Please don't keep us in suspense! :)

Author's Response: Thank you for the review! Part Two lasts for a bit before you get some of those answers. And I know that in this Part all the action is taking place Outside, but that's where the plot is moving forward for now. I, personally, enjoy the fluff with D&G, but I know it can be a bit like filler. Everything will come to a head in Part Three. Thanks so much! I hope to get more feedback from you in the future. :)

I like the light and dark dynamic of this chapter. It's so much fun watching Ginny and Draco find their way as parents. They have such a unique experience, being secluded from the interference (positive or negative) of their extended families as they figure out how to raise a child. Draco is such a sweet daddy. I love the father/son portions of this story. And though tensions will rise and tempers will flare as they each make parenting mistakes, I love watching them work through their issues and come out stronger (as a couple) for it. I especially liked this part of this chapter: After all, I will not allow my child to grow up and act like you did at Hogwarts."

"Hey, I'm having an emotional breakthrough here. Can you at least show me some more sympathy? And I was not that bad at Hogwarts." He glared at her and then amended, "Okay, fine. I was fairly rotten."

"Yeah, but you turned out pretty good." She leaned up and kissed him. :)

On the flip-side, my heart breaks for Narcissa. This all must be agony for her; and Harry is so unfeeling about it all. I'm glad she has Pansy to walk her through it.
Good chapter. I look forward to the next. :)

Author's Response: Wow! Thank you for the detailed review! I feel like Part Two of this fic is a little bi-polar sometimes, jumping between the inside and outside worlds. So I'm really glad that you are enjoying the "light and dark dynamic". I love D & G as parents so I probably am a little indulgent in those scenes, but I figure they are stuck and their lives are not going to have the drama that the outside world has. Speaking of, Narcissa definitely has had a rough go of it. A lot of them have. Harry is a bit callous, but I tend to write him that way. Thanks so much again! I hope to update this week!

Thanks for another fabulous chapter! Draco and Ginny are so sweet; I love the way you write them. They're also very real. I can shake my head and chuckle as I read the parenting scenes, because they remind me of my own days raising babies.
I especially enjoyed the last portion (his birthday request through the end). Once again, it was sweet, fluffy, and fun. :)

Author's Response: Thanks again for reviewing! And it's awesome that they seam real to you. I am not writing from personal experience. Yay for fluff! It lasts for a bit more and then we enter Part Three.

Well done, as always! I have to say that I'm really very fond of Narcissa and Pansy in this story. I have no idea what to expect from Lucius; but I was happy along with Narcissa when she found his message. There are no words for how self-centered Harry is! I am secretly delighting in the rude awakening he has coming. ;) I'm so glad that Bill is being decent; and I hope that George will be, as well. Last, but not least, I loved Thuban doing magic. What a fun scene! I also get a kick out of Ginny's interest in pureblood history/traditions. Thanks again for the consistent updates. Happy writing! :)

Author's Response: And thank YOU, as always! :)

I really love Narcissa and Pansy too. There's much more with them to come. Lucius is tricky to write for me in this fic so your thoughts on him will be welcome. Harry is, well, he's a douche. And he's definitely in for a surprise. I love my little Thuban so much, glad you enjoyed his magic scene. :)

Thanks again! And more to come soon!

There are so many wonderful things to say about this chapter, I hardly know where to begin! Thuban's birthday celebration was great. And even though Draco and Ginny arguing on such a special day would have sucked, I'm glad that they made up quickly AND that they decided to try for another baby. The way you wrote that bit was really sweet. The scene with Lucius was excellent. I'm so glad you softened him up, instead of making him hardened and arrogant. :) I always love the baby milestones, so Thuban taking his first steps was exciting. It does not begin to compare with my excitement over the Mark fading, and everything that means for them. I was really hoping that would make it into this chapter; and I was not disappointed. It was a perfectly written moment. I'm eager to read whatever happens next. :)

Author's Response: Yay! Thanks so much for another really awesome review! You know how much I love the fluff so I'm glad you're enjoying it.

And thanks for answering my question about Lucius. When I first started writing this fic, I never anticipated this scene. I wanted Lucius to still be canon, but in my fic, the war has dragged on for years and he's suffered a lot more. I hope that him being more open with Narcissa makes sense.

And yes, the Mark has faded! A bit more to come before the big reunion though. And then we will be in Part Three.

Thanks again! I love reading your reviews. :)

Perfect! I love the pace of this story - it doesn't drag, and you don't skim over anything too quickly. I like that we got a recap of Harry v. Voldemort, instead of a full-blown battle scene. I *almost* felt bad for Harry now that he knows Ginny is gone. Almost. But not quite. ;) I liked the interaction between Mrs. Weasley and Harry. It gave me a little bit of hope that she might be an advocate for Ginny and her new family once they're out in the real world. I was surprised that Lucius died; but it worked. I still think that Narcissa will be thrilled to have her son back, and grateful to Ginny for saving his life and giving her a grandson. But that's just me getting ahead of the story. :) Great chapter! I'm looking forward to the next. :)

Author's Response: Wow! Thank you! Pacing was something I really fretted over when writing this so I'm relieved to hear your comments.

I love hearing your thoughts on the characters. And I'm glad you enjoyed the battle recap. I honestly couldn't bring myself to even attempt a real scene because I just simply don't care about that kind of stuff. And I liked that moment with Mrs. Weasley as well - thanks for appreciating it. Yeah, Lucius probably didn't have to die, but he did. I never actually planned on killing him when I started this, but when it came down to it, he simply had to go. And as for the reunion, it's coming. A couple more chappies and then we enter Part Three. Yay!

Thanks so much for all your reviews and support. I really appreciate it. :)

Rather than tell you everything I love about this chapter, perhaps I could just say that there is nothing I don't like! hehehe
I thought the way you wrote the memories was perfect. It makes sense that we would see them along with Narcissa. I love that Snape continued to protect Ginny even in his dying moments, and that Lucius was able to help him do that.
You have done a great job developing your characters throughout this fic. Sometimes I read fanfic, and feel like the authors only went so far as to use the names of JKR's characters; but their personalities are all wrong. Your characters (all of them) are consistent throughout this story, and they just feel "right."

Author's Response: Oh thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the memories. I think I like them more now than when I first wrote them. And it was nice to give Snape one last chance to show how much he loved Draco as well as protect Ginny. And thank you so much for the really generous compliments about my characters. It's something that I tried to keep in mind, but I'm still really new to this writing thing. It is easy to get caught up in your story and forget the original characters. Thanks so much for enjoying my take on them. The next chapter should be posted soon. :)

Great chapter! I'm so glad that Ginny's trip into the "real world" was a positive experience. I have to admit I was a little anxious about that (not that I thought you would let anything happen to her). lol
Her conversation with Draco about shopping made me laugh.
I loved the more serious conversation between George and Pansy. I also love that, even though Draco tries to stifle his emotions, he eventually lets himself be vulnerable with his wife, and allows her to reassure him.
Finally, I thought Nor"witch" Beauty Supply was clever. :)

Author's Response: Thank you, a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed this last bit of transition. And Draco is definitely having hard time adjusting. I almost changed the whole Norwitch Beauty Supply part so it's good to know it was appreciated. I am seriously starting to have worries that the next part will be a total fail. I'm sure you will continue to let me know your thoughts - and please don't hesitate to let me know if something isn't working. Thanks again!

Great start to Part Three! I think it's perfectly reasonable for them to use muggle transport for their trip. It's probably safer considering they don't know what they're going into; and it seems to reinforce that tension of wanting to see their families, but wanting to delay the meetings as well. I never considered how frightened Thuban might be of other people. Poor baby! That was a nice detail. And I love the way the family clock tracked Ginny's progress, and prepared the Weasley's for her arrival. Great start! :)

Author's Response: Thank you! Glad to hear your thoughts on the Muggle transport. I think you explained it better than me. :) Porr little Thuban, right? What a shocking turn of events for the little guy. I actually forgot to put the clock in that sccene and my amazing beta SometimeSelkie pointed it out. So glad too. I think it needed to be there after playing such an important role throughout Part Two. Thanks again for your thoughtful review!

I love the reunion with the brothers. They love their sister enough to be (at least reluctantly) supportive. Ron's and Harry's behavior was no surprise. Molly is a lot colder than I expected, though. Not only is she snubbing Draco, but she's rejecting the idea that her daughter is happy (and was happy during her time away). I didn't expect Molly to be thrilled with the new family; but I thought there might be a bit of understanding or empathy (a sort of mother-daughter bonding) now that Ginny is a married woman with a child. So that was a little unsettling. I'm hoping to understand her position more (and see it resolved) in upcoming chapters.
Nevertheless, I love the tenderness between Draco and Ginny. Their love does not falter under scrutiny; and they continue to be a source of strength and security for one another. Their interactions also help relieve some of the heaviness in this part of the story. I enjoyed the quip about Christmas dinner. ;)

Author's Response: Molly is a tough one for me. I kind of like her a little bit mean, short-tempered for sure. Things will continue to explore her stance on Ginny's (and Draco's and Thuban's) arrival. I only hope that I have written it well enough that readers like you won't be wondering about her choices. I'm sure you will tell me your thoughts and I look forward to them all - even if you are not happy with it.

Thanks so much for the love towards the reunion otherwise and for the Draco and Ginny moments. I really loved that last little scene. It was nice to bring out snarky Draco for a moment again. Thank you!

This chapter is perfect. The reunion with Narcissa was beautiful; and I love that George and Pansy are working together to help sort this out. :)

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm not sure about perfection, but I'll take that compliment anyway! So glad you liked the reunion. I was hoping it would be good enough. And Pansy and George are definitely fun together. They have some more moments coming. Thank you so much for the review!

I like that you brought in Blaise instead of some no-name litigator. I love that Draco has people on his side now. Harry was a little softer in this chapter, and I almost found myself sympathizing with him. The way Ginny responded to him was great. Looking forward to more! :)

Author's Response: Thank you. And I love your reaction to Harry. So glad you picked up on him or maybe it's his motivations. He's not an evil person in this fic. Selfish, for sure. But not evil. Thanks again for the review!

I love the banter between George and Pansy. You make them so much fun to read! And I love Percy's little slip about excuses to spend time together. Maybe it will help them move along a bit. ;)
The healer is awful - which I'm sure is what you were going for. hehehe I was hoping it would be someone unbiased, who would be willing to tell the truth if Ginny had not been manipulated; but I'm pretty sure this woman will just tell Harry whatever he wants to hear. It was horrible for Ginny to hear the half-truth about Lucius killing Severus - I can't wait for her to find out the whole story.
The bit about Ginny (maybe) being pregnant was (I thought) a bit confusing. Or at least out of the blue. Don't get me wrong...I've been waiting for baby #2 since they decided in Part 2 to start trying. It just seemed sudden, since we hadn't heard of any possible indications before this. And I'm still not sure if she is, or if she just thinks she could be.
Finally, I think the cliffhanger was wonderful. I'm fairly certain it's George stepping out of the fire, but I can't wait for the next update to find out for sure! :)

Author's Response: Thanks. I think Pansy and George kind of fill the Draco and Ginny void well in this fic. They have a similar kind of banter.

Glad you enjoyed the healer in her awfulness, yes that is what I was going for. I wanted her to remain professional but clearly more interested in her theories than in helping Ginny. Plus, she was hired by Harry and that did play a part in the way she treated her.

Anyway, I know the pregnancy may have been a little out of nowhere, but they just started trying at the end of July. It's only Sept 5th (according to my handy little timeline). A lot has been happening in a short amount of time, so they haven't really thought about it.

Glad you enjoyed the cliffie, and who is waiting in the Floo will be revealed at the beginning of the next chapter. Thanks so much for this awesome review!

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you for a little bit of fluff to help sustain us! ;)
I love that Ginny is now surrounded by people who care about her, and she can finally relax a bit. There is absolutely nothing in this chapter that I don't like; but I especially enjoy Ginny's observations about George and Pansy's relationship, everyone's response to Thuban, and the fact that the little guy finally gets to run around and play. Can't wait for what comes next. :)

Author's Response: Oh, you're welcome! I love the fluff, which I'm sure you have picked up on by now. :) Yes, Ginny and Thuban are finally free. It has been a long time coming hasn't it? Ginny has been pretty much captive since the beginning of this story! And I guess Draco is still captive - but that is what the rest is about. Glad you are liking the George and Pansy side-line. They are both very stubborn so nothing will happen quickly with those two. Thanks so much for reviewing!

I enjoyed this chapter so much that I didn't realize til quite awhile later that you left out the result of Ginny's pregnancy test. How very sneaky of you! lol I'm thinking maybe you'll tell us when she tells Draco; but what do I know? I think you made a good choice by summarizing the newspaper article instead of rewriting stuff we already know. I like that Ron made a teensy bit of an effort to soften up a bit. I'm also curious about the gem from the wedding vial - whether that might mean it partially worked, or something like that. I still have my speculations as to why it failed. Eagerly awaiting the next chapter. :)

Author's Response: Yay! Glad you enjoyed it! And yeah, the pregnancy test results will be known soon. *smiles bashfully* And thanks for answering my question in regards to the article. Also, good to know you picked up on Ron's efforts, albeit small, to show some kindness. More on the stone in the next chapter. Thanks so much for reviewing!

I continue to love the flow of this story. I know that the end will come eventually; and I look forward to it with both excitement (to see how everything works together) and sadness. For now, though, I am enjoying every bit of it. I'm VERY curious to know what Hermione found in her research. I have my own theory about the broken vial and the stone; and I'm anxious to see if I'm even close to what you've come up with! I'm glad Ginny is finally going to get a wand; and I'm glad that at least a few of the brothers are supportive, and looking out for Ginny. It's good that some of the Weasleys have settled down; but I don't think they've really changed their opinion at all. What Harry did going to Rita - that was UNbelievable! No good can come from her. That was low, even for him. I'm kind of hoping that in the end (when they're cleared) it makes him look like even more of a jerk. His "love" for Ginny at this point is just completely selfish.

Author's Response: Aww, thank you! I'm anxious to see if you have guessed about the stone, too! That will all come out in chapter 38. And your thoughts on Harry are really interesting. I think he is very seflish. That's pretty much the driving force in how I write him in relation to Ginny. She's a prize or possession to him, not a person. But that being said, he's really not a terrible person in this fic. He's desperate and scared - and yes, making some poor choices. Thanks so much for reviewing!
