Sorry if this sounds a bit condescending. I don't know how much you know about RPGs of any level, so I'm trying to speak to the lowest common denominator.

An RPG is a Role Playing Game, "a game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters and collaboratively create or follow stories." (Gotta love Wiki!) There's many different types of RPGs. Table top, like Dungeons and Dragons or Vampire: the Masquerade. On-line RPGs, which can take place through e-mail, boards, LiveJournal, or some other form. There's also Live-Action RPGs, where you dress as your character and actually act out scenes and fights.

In Caliga, the players get together to collaboratively write scenes. We do this in GoogleDocs, while using IMs to do out of character chats. The scenes are written before they are posted to the RPG journal.

You don't have to have an LJ to watch, though it is a little easier because you can friend all the character journals and read their private thoughts.

Non-characters are not allowed to join the RPG or OOC communities, though you're more than welcome to watch them. The Fan community is open to everyone.
