You know, it's sad to me that people would want their work presented in such a way. It is sad to me that people would want anything but their best effort archived for everyone to read.
That said, I also find it sad that these people don't believe that even they are subject to human error. It makes me sad that when submitting a fic, those of us that try our hardest to live upon the grammar pedestal will now have our fics rejected because of a few piddly errors that both ourselves and our betas managed to miss. I've had one particular Cabal member be particularly sweet to me in the past in correcting a few errors (merely formatting errors that got mucked up in submission, mind you). It makes me sad that she will no longer be able to do that. It drives me nuts scouring my stories for errors and not finding them simply because I am too familiar with my own work. I regularly go back and read my stories every couple of months. I find new errors practically every single time.

I submit the best work I am capable of. I pride myself on this. Everyone should submit the best work they are capable of. I find it not only offensive to the Cabal but offensive to myself and all the readers out there that there are authors not adhering to this standard.

I've repeatedly written reviews to authors here and otherwise that have told me in no uncertain terms that they didn't need a beta. I have a non-native speaker tell me that she didn't need a beta because her grammar was better than any native speaker out there. For the record, it was not. Her usage wasn't so great, either.

Anyone who doesn't get a beta or doesn't have some sort of English grammar degree/an otherwise extensive background in grammar ought to reconsider. We are all too familiar with our own work and are always subject to human error. *end rant*
