Author's Response: My intention was to show that he was weird because he was thinking about his father. The ring is just a promise ring. I'm sure she got a big honking diamond for her engagement. At least I hope so.

It's not a bad ending, but it seemed really abrupt. I had to go back and try to figure out if I'd missed a chapter, because the last one didn't lead into what happened.
Author's Response: I reread it, and decided that you were right. I went back and added a phrase to the opening sentence that will hopefully take care of that.
