Family background: Born to Muggle parents, Demelza had no idea there was a world of magic existing simultaneously alongside her own until she received her Hogwarts letter. The fact that she was a witch certainly explained a lot; while she hadn't experienced many incidents of random magic, how she had turned her teacher's hair violet several years in a row had previously been unexplained. Demelza's loving parents, Alec and Bernice, took to their daughter being a witch as well as could be expected. Alec is a retired banker and he and Bernice travel extensively. Her brother, Jasper, is in his last year at Hogwarts.

Habits\Quirks: Mel really likes her aprons, to the point where she almost feels naked without one; she's obviously seldom without one. She smiles a lot when she's nervous, and likes to chew gum - it keeps her from sampling her own cooking. She typically doesn't wear a lot of jewelry, as it's not allowed in the kitchen.
Likes\Dislikes: Likes order, punctuality, puttering around in her herb garden behind the restaurant, high heels when she's not at work, traveling abroad, reading, spending time with her family and friends. Dislikes mornings without coffee, wintertime, loud people and cigarette smoke.

History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time:Even though she thought she'd been a pretty decent chaser, Demelza wasn't heavily recruited by quidditch teams after Hogwarts. She wanted the chance to play professionally though, so she accepted an offer from the Romanian National team. Professional quidditch didn't turn out to be what she hoped it would be; playing for money seemed to suck the joy out of the game. After being involved in the incident that ended Roger Davies's quidditch career, she retired after her first and only season and headed home to her family in Great Britain.
She stumbled for a while professionally, helping out Madam Hooch at Hogwarts briefly, trying her hand at office politics, and even working as a dog walker in the city before deciding to follow her childhood dream of becoming a chef. She completed a rigorous four year training program in France and returned to London, having secured a job as sous chef at the Blue Owl.
