Summer Fantasy

Something flickered like firelight
Through the trees a flash so bright
He crept closer to the site
His heart leapt to a new height
There – his dream girl – like a sprite
Poised for Beltane's summer rite
So glad that he had the chance
To watch her dance in the night

He stayed silent – watched her there –
Of his presence unaware
Firelight dancing off her hair
And all he could do was stare
While she danced without a care
And she was exceeding fair
Fantasy dance of Beltane –
Let his heart again to dare

He joined in the Beltane dance
He was glad he took the chance
She welcomed him with a glance
Her smile hit him like a lance
Back – then forward they'd advance
Circled the fire in a trance
There – near the fire – in the night
It felt so right this romance

They were graceful as the fire
It reflected their attire
He felt they would never tire –
To new heights they would aspire
And with her new life he'd sire
May Queen playing on a lyre
As May King he played drummer
Welcome Summer to the shire

The End.
