Breaking all Boundaries

Just a little note before I ramble about how Draco and Ginny can happen, just ignore it when I’m being sarcastic ...

--

Frankly, I get tired after reading the same old arguments people come up with against this ship. It’s like they will certainly not accept that a Weasley is paired up with a Malfoy. Because it’s so unpredictable, they run around in circles, screaming out things that aren’t even canon. Let me give you an example what they will scream at you first;

But she’s a Weasley and he’s a Malfoy! They hate each other!

I can feel my brain cells being eliminated one by one each time some one says this. How many times do we DG shippers have to say that the Weasleys and the Malfoys hate each other and not Draco and Ginny?

Sure, I could be wrong and blind and they do hate each other. And now I ask; yes, is there a problem with that?

If they might hate each other, it doesn’t mean they can’t get together. We can all safely sail our ship even though the characters despise each other. But really, all you need is love, right?

You do not have to like someone in order to love them. Quite the opposite, you can hate the person for loving him/her. What ever our mind says about that person, even though how much we hate him or her, it’s the heart that speaks for us. Yes, and we all know we can’t choose our love. It’s unpredictable, just like the DG ship.

So quit nagging our ship with the oldest and lame excuse for an argument that they hate each other.

The most probably second thing they are going to yell at you is;

Ginny is good and Draco is evil, they can never be together!

People really don’t take this seriously, really really really, have some imagination! Lets delve into the characters a bit before we start shooting down this argument.

Ginny is not, nor will she ever be, the ‘perfect innocent good’ that we see in Harry’s eyes. She may be firmly on the good side, but that’s because her family made her believe that was good. Ginny knows what is good and what is wrong and will stay on Harry’s side, the good. Though, with her experience with the dark side in her first year, she could easily become a Dark!Ginny.

Now you may say that it was not out of her own free will, because she was being controlled. I recall Ginny writing into the diary, Tom Riddle writing back to her. But when strange things began to happen, Ginny threw the diary away before it could get anymore worse. So she knew the diary wasn’t good for her, she knew. Then Harry got his hands on the diary and Ginny had to protect him by stealing the book from him. She had the diary back again in her hands, she knew it wasn’t good for her, yet she started writing in it again.

Of course she was only eleven years old at that time, but a Dark!Ginny can happen, don’t you dare to say that it will never happen.

Next, Draco isn’t evil. Come on people, who ever said Draco Malfoy was the purest of evil in human form? Last time I checked, Death Eaters are evil, Voldemort is evil. We don’t know if Draco follows his father’s footsteps and becomes (or already is) a Death Eater. So you can’t say Draco is evil, unless you have canon proof.

Besides, Draco is a bully. He likes to try and expel the trio and the rest of the Weasley clan, that is bully behavior. He was raised to believe that siding with the Dark Side is good, you can’t blame him for what his family has done. Unless he stabs Hermione with a dagger in her back, you can’t call him evil.

Now that we have delved a little into their characters, it doesn’t matter who is fighting for the right cause and whom for the wrong. Just because Ginny is on the good side and Draco on the dark side, doesn’t mean they can’t have feelings for each other. I would have thought you’d credit these characters more as human beings.

Many people however, think that Draco needs to be redeemed in order to have a relationship with Ginny.

Sadly, a lot of people think that way. I will point above to were Draco is evil, yet can have feelings for Ginny. Why is it that Draco can only be with Ginny after he is redeemed? Of course you’ll say; because she doesn’t approve what he has done to her and her family.

Yes, he has been horrible towards her family, it can’t be taken back, you just have to live with that. Draco can be his snarky smirky and arrogant self and still be in a healthy relationship with Ginny. He still hates the rest of the Weasleys, but they can live with it. It doesn’t require him to be a replica of Harry Potter and be a goody-two-shoes. Ginny is the type or person who will accept who you are, just as she will accept that Draco is an arrogant and selfish person.

Opposites do attract, don’t they?

Then why can Draco and Ginny happen while they hate each other and Draco and Hermione can’t while they too hate each other?

Well, mostly it’s because JK Rowling herself said on her site that D/Hr will never ever happen. But apart from that, Draco and Hermione have – how do you say – a different kind of hate towards each other.

It’s the kind of hate that will remain that way, it won’t ever change (or it can, I don’t know). It’s the hate because they know each other by person, not by family. Draco and Ginny only hate eachother (or they don’t hate eachother, who knows) because by their families.

As far as I can say, Draco and Hermione are not equals. Draco and Ginny however, are.

If Draco and Hermione were together, they would strive and compete against each other to out-beat the other. Hermione is the know-it-all that gets tops marks, Draco complained about how she got all the highest grades in Chamber of Secrets. If they are striving to compete with each other, I do certainly not call them equals. And we all know we need our equals.

I also see no chemistry between the characters. Hermione is too serious and too bossy to ever have a liking in Draco. Draco likes to insult everyone who is basically a Gryffindor, especially a Mudblood. They may seem opposites, but they do not form a whole. They just don’t click with being equals.

As for Ginny being Draco’s equal and visa versa, they really are. An equal is someone who fills your other half but is on the same level as you are.

Draco is rich, snobby, witty, stubborn, will most likely safe himself before friends, very prideful, likes to play Quidditch and thinks all people who associate with Muggles are blood-traitors.

Ginny is poor, talkative, stubborn, prideful, witty, puts friends and family in first place, likes being a chaser on the Quidditch team and doesn’t care about the boundaries between Muggle and Wizard.

We can see total opposites, yet similarities. They are poor and rich, loyal, stubborn ect.

With these kind of personality’s, they will be bickering a lot. But no one said that having a relationship were no one ever makes a fight is healthy, it’s rather quite something to be worried about. When Draco, hypothetically, wants to go right, Ginny wants to go left and says what’s on her mind. This, of course, is needed. Draco needs someone to force him to think about others, Ginny is just the person to do it and won’t let him get away what ever he is planning. Draco is the ultimate test to Ginny’s temper, seeing as he would probably upset Ginny lots of times. They may not get well around with each other, at least they are equals.

Another thing that people say (even the ones that sail this ship) that it will never happen in canon.

I entirely disagree. The only couple we are absolutely sure of that it will not happen in canon is the D/Hr ship, which was stomped into the ground by JK Rowling’s own foot. Never has JK Rowling said this about DG, so all evidence that it will never happen in not true.

But some people might say that they want canon proof if it’s going to happen in canon.

I cannot give you canon proof that the DG ship will ultimately happen in canon, but I can give you evidence that it can happen. Which are like, all the reasons above.

The point of writing this not-so-long essay is to point out that the DG ship can definitely happen, while others refuse to believe that. Just because Draco carries the last name Malfoy and Ginny carries the name Weasley, doesn’t mean it should be frowned upon and shove them away saying that ‘they hate each other’. The DG truly has many layers and is something worth writing and reading about.

DG? Entirely possible.
