Chapter 11- Warring Songbirds

“Ginny, do you know who that song was from?” Parvati’s dark eyes shown with excitement at the thought of a ‘secret admirer.’ “Whoever it was, it was a very sweet thing to do.”

“I know exactly who it’s from.” The red-head's eyes were glued to Draco as she tried to think of a song that she could sing back to him. When one finally popped into her head, she trotted up to the stage, waiting impatiently for her turn. “This song is dedicated to a certain someone in the audience; you know who you are. So. . . yeah.”

A single acoustic guitar began the song, and a few people throughout the audience murmured in recognition. Ginny suddenly found she was nervous, and she didn’t know why; Ginny Weasley was never nervous.

I’m tugging at my hair

I’m pulling at my clothes

I’m trying to keep my cool

I know it shows

I’m staring at my feet

My cheeks are turning red

I’m searching for the words

Inside my head

’Cause I’m feeling nervous

Trying to be so perfect

’Cause I know you’re worth it

You’re worth it, yeah

Ginny bit her lip for the brief moment before the chorus started, actually embarrassed to be admitting her feelings in front of the entire cast.

If I could say what I want to say

I’d say I want to blow you away

Be with you every night

Am I squeezing you too tight?

If I could say what I want to see

I want to see you go down on one knee

Marry me today

Guess I’m wishing my life away

With these things I’ll never say

Ginny’s jitters began to fade as the opening guitar chords led into the second verse. She’d performed a hundred times; what was there to be nervous about?

It don’t do me any good

It’s just a waste of time

What use is it to you

What’s on my mind?

If it ain’t coming out

We’re not going anywhere

So, why can’t I just tell you

That I care?

’Cause I’m feeling nervous

Trying to be so perfect

’Cause I know you’re worth it

You’re worth it, yeah

If I could say what I want to say

I’d say I want to blow you away

Be with you every night

Am I squeezing you too tight?

If I could say what I want to see

I want to see you go down on one knee

Marry me today

Guess I’m wishing my life away

With these things I’ll never say

Ginny sought out Draco, her green eyes boldly meeting his gray ones. Understanding burned there, and she knew he'd figured out what was going on.

What’s wrong with my tongue?

These words keep slipping away

I stutter, I stumble

Like I’ve got nothing to say

’Cause I’m feeling nervous

Trying to be so perfect

’Cause I know you’re worth it

You’re worth it, yeah

The acoustic guitar took over again for a short musical interlude, Ginny bopped a little bit to the beat, causing a few people to laugh.

Guess I’m wishing my life away

With these things I’ll never say

If I could say what I want to say

I’d say I want to blow you away

Be with you every night

Am I squeezing you too tight?

If I could say what I want to see

I want to see you go down on one knee

Marry me today

Guess I’m wishing my life away

With these things I’ll never say

Ginny let the electric guitar fade completely away, leaving everyone hanging on her words, before singing the last line.

These things I’ll never say

Everyone in the cast clapped at the song’s conclusion, and Ginny playfully curtsied as she walked off the stage. She found Hermione without too much trouble, and the two sat chatting through the next three songs. The beginning of the fourth was a familiar electric guitar pattern, and Ginny looked up to see it was Draco onstage.

Prison gates won’t open up for me

On these hands and knees I’m crawling

Oh, I reach for you

Well, I’m terrified of these four walls

‘Cause iron bars can’t hold my soul

And all I need is you

Come, please, I’m callin’

And oh, I scream for you

Hurry, I’m fallin’

I’m fallin’

Draco’s eyes found Ginny’s, pinning her to her seat with an iron stare.

Show me what it’s like

To be the last one standing

Teach me wrong from right

And I’ll show you what I can be

And say it for me, say it to me

And I’ll leave this life behind me

Say it if it’s what’s savin’ me

Heaven’s gates won’t open up for me

With these broken wings I’m falling

All I see is you

These city walls ain’t got no love for me

I’m on the ledge of the eighteenth story

And oh, I scream for you

Come, please, I’m callin’

And all I need from you

Hurry, I’m fallin’

I’m fallin’

Show me what it’s like

To be the last one standing

Teach me wrong from right

And I’ll show you what I can be

And say it for me, say it to me

And I’ll leave this life behind me

Say it if it’s what’s savin’ me

Hurry, I’m fallin’

The guitar went off on a difficult solo, and the other instrument built the music in behind it, growing to a forte before dropping down to almost nothing.

And all I need is you

Come, please, I’m callin’

And oh, I scream for you

Hurry, I’m fallin’

I’m fallin’

The music dropped out completely for an instant, then came back in, soaring with Draco’s voice in an incredible climax.

Show me what it’s like

To be the last one standing

Teach me wrong from right

And I’ll show you what I can be

And say it for me, say it to me

And I’ll leave this life behind me

Say it if it’s what’s savin’ me

Hurry, I’m fallin’

And say it for me, say it to me

And I’ll leave this life behind me

Say it if it’s what’s savin’ me
