Comments: I first read this at least five years ago, and it's haunted me ever since. Its subtle narration of events that go unnoticed by everyone except the two main characters themselves showed me how inner worlds can inform the fates of outer ones, and it's informed my ideas of writing and literature and even creation itself since then.
