Author's Response: McDonald's is everywhere; Arby's not so much, I guess. You haven't missed a lot. It's another fast-food place, but without burgers.
Let's just say that we know Draco hasn't gone through whatever the final thing was that changed him so much, although he'd obviously experienced a lot by the time he was almost eighteen. Was that before or after Marie? Good question... (pets plot bunny and feeds it more carrots) When will we find out what happened to Lucius? Why does Stephen Jay Gould know who Hermione is? Why haven't I moved out yet? (Okay, that has an easy answer. Because I'm moving next Saturday.) More soon... definitely another chapter before I pack up the computer... ;)

Author's Response: Thank you! :) I didn't know how much everybody would like this chapter, because it's kind of Draco-less. But we're starting to get to the part that was REALLY planned out and Draco WILL be back, and it's going to get truly interesting when he does come back... (pets plot bunny. It's about eight feet high by now. Good thing I have a bulk discount on virtual carrots.) Um... the lexicon thing... well, it's sad actually, but the idea came from Steve van Ark's HP Lexicon. I was at an HP conference and heard him speak. :) What happened with his lexicon and JKR's copyright lawyers was really unnecessary. Not sure how it turned out, but I definitely felt bad for him.
Anyway... I *hope* I'll be able to update one more time before I move. If I can't, though, I do have a plan. I'll do a chapter of nothing but cookie crumbs from upcoming chapters. :) I guarantee, that'll be fun to read... let's just say that the ratings will be all over the place. ;)

so, draco is going to assume that ginny and dean have slept together. chaos ensues? draco won't think of her as pure anymore and that's just so much angst right there. would this be when he finds out ginny's not emotionally/spiritually/mentally pure? OR is that not even really a problem because she's not nearly as corrupted as she or lucius thinks she is?

Author's Response: Loki does bring deviousness to new heights, doesn't he? :) Yes, Zen & Zach are related to Loki, which I hinted at, but they've chosen to pass as mortals, which he obviously hasn't. The D/G exchange over the Dean discovery is coming right up, so we do NOT have long to wait to find out about that. Loki's motives... mmm.... Ginny would like to know that, too. ;) More soon.

this makes me sad. :( draco was a little bit heartbreaking. and there was something off about his 'truths' and ginny was so strong about it. i loved it, but it's sad. which is point, i guess. because if they had just torn off they're clothes and gone at it...well, is that really the point anymore?

But we KNOW that this isn't the end of Draco and Ginny's story... far from it... (their clothes-tearing-off-time will come)... or Draco and Marie's story, either.

Nope, Draco's honeymoon ended back in June. Some of the events that happened in it may eventually be revealed, but suffice it to say that nobody had any fun at all. What has he been doing for four months? Yes, that's one of the big questions, isn't it... ;)
(hugs Dean) He doesn't really have sinister motives... not in the way I think you mean, anyway. But he tries to hang onto exes too long, such as Ginny. And we haven't seen yet exactly what might happen as a result of this. Hmmm, we MIGHT just see the Crystal Palace very very soon... but something tells me it isn't the only place we're going to see. But things won't get TOO complicated. Don't worry.;) More soon!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh! this was like the very last bite of a much too rich and fulfilling chocolate cake. complete satisfaction.
as your other reviewers mentioned, there is plenty of juicy stuff left to fill a sequel, and I am very curious about all the unanswered questions we have left. I still have this eternal hope that Draco and Ginny will have a happoly ever after though, despite all the odds. It's funny how reading a fic like this can sometimes make you forget that it isn't canon, every time I go back and read the originals I still am surprised to not find Draco and Ginny together at the very end.
well done Anise, this is a real and significant aachievement. I loved every bit of it - the anticipation, the angst, ALL OF IT, and eagerly await Book 2, as well as any other fics you intend to publish.
Author's Response: Hi, Purr! (I think that AHHHH went off the edge... ;) Mmm... chocolate cake... Thanks!! Yes, I think that this is one of those fics that needs a sequel. There are just too many questions that remain unanswered, too many characters who have too many reasons for revenge or who just aren't going to go away quietly, too many things that Draco and Ginny are still hiding from each other. For instance (and this is kind of a cookie crumb, I guess... but then again, not really, because it's something that I think readers could figure out) Ginny is going to insist on complete honesty from Draco from now on. BUT, she obviously never found out that he revealed some really nasty parts of his personality and then Obliviated her on that night back at the Lyme Bay cottage (around Chapter 20.) So what's going to happen if she ever finds out about that?
Anyway...
(Now, we KNOW that in the actual hidden canon, they DID get together.... the way that the 7th book didn't end D/G was all because of those evil aliens from the planet Zoltar, who kidnapped JKR and made her write that ending. It makes perfect sense. ;)

You know, purr, I really love your theories... sometimes you hit on something EXACTLY. Sort of. But the way it eventually works out in the fic is *so completely different* from what you'd think that you'll have to read it to believe it. That's what Ginny told me, anyway. ;) And chocolate causes problems every time I have it (sniff). So sad. I think it interferes with the epilepsy meds.
Another chapter coming up soon... I'll warn all y'all, this fic gets darker in the second half and so does Draco. A cookie crumb, for everyone's reading pleasure...

He wasn’t sure if he’d recognize a noble action if it jumped up and bit him on the arse. He had done what he needed to do to keep Ginny pure, and to guard her purity from the prying eyes of the world. Perhaps he had never given up for even one moment on his obsession with keeping Ginny’s purity safe for his own private use, one day. Perhaps he had been mad to think he ever could.

how is draco going to get out of this? for all intent and purpose he's bound to astoria and finally realises what martyring himself really entails. but that is not all. it can't be. because there is still the regency ball to attend, and i think he'll go with ginny.
i would like ginny to rip astoria to shreds. verbally, i mean. they need to have a showdown. i think astoria with break the marriage contract somehow (sleeping with lucius?)

Author's Response: Thank you! :) I really think that Draco's character develops here too... he has to do this if he can ever be with Ginny, and also if he's really going to live a meaningful life on his own. Yep, he's kind of got himself stuck with Astoria for now. He had good intentions, bless his heart. ;) But that's FAR from being all, and we will see much more in Part 2 of DDD.

Author's Response: No! Don't go insane!!! Really. (anxiously hands out... I don't know... sanity potion. ;) I just got a very strong feeling that Percy was the only Weasley child who even had any idea about his dad and Draco's mom. I kept thinking that I didn't know how this even had anything to do with the plot, but the impression wouldn't go away. So you know, it might be important for something that happens later. ;) Um, I wouldn't really worry about DDD ending anytime real soon if I were you... (pets plot bunny of doom; it has tons of carrots and rabbit food. You know, I just went to the Oregon State Fair, and I saw lots and LOTS of bunnies...)

alright, i'll give you a real review. I havent read fics when both Draco and Ginny are at school for quite some time, and I've missed them. I like this even more because of the AU aspect - its just reminds me of how much more there is and could be of J.K's world. and I hate hate hate getting to the middle of a fic and not knowing, especially when I have assessment due (which I do) and all I can do every 4 minutes is check the 'most recent' link and see if there are updates.

“Very much so,” said Draco. His mouth quirked upwards. “Remember Bob Ross and his Happy Trees? I’d never have believed then that we’d reach this point, but we have.”
“We’ve come a long way since then,” said Ginny. She remembered how furious she was when she first learned that she’d be working with Draco on the fountain project, and that he’d somehow finagled his way into the Junior Minister of Art position. How snippy and cold she’d tried to be to him; how snarky he’d been to her in return. How exhausted he’d always looked, too, and how much she had wanted to smooth away the dark circles from under his eyes and put a real smile on his handsome face. She’d threatened to report him to the Minister of Art and have someone else reassigned to her; she was ashamed to think of that now.
“We certainly have,” said Draco, giving her one of his real smiles, the sort she’d never imagined his face could possibly form in those days. She tried not to smile in return. She wanted to remain as serious as possible.

Argh! The sequel is just about as aggravatingly teasing, tempting, mysterious and tantalising as the first.
I am in agreeance on the Hermione and George 'thing' - but I like George, and Hermione not so much, so I will have to come to terms with that at some point. And I really like this introduction of Padma and Ron - it seems very....appropriate, or something.
And Draco and Ginny are just so very lovely together.
Can't wait for more!

both of your fanfics are great! I've read them both back to back as a means of procrastinating, and they are exactly what I like when I can't handle angsty and deep and brooding fics which are lovely as well, but I think Draco and Ginny are inherently humorous as a couple,a nd individually, and both of your fics illustrate it superbly.

Hi Anise.
It's been awhile, hasn't it? Completely my fault, it happens to everyone, this 'real life' business, and I know YOU know how...consuming D/G in general can be. So I thought, no, stay away, concentrate on uni, job etc etc you don't have hours to read/write/obsess over this pairing. (And it is really only ever this pairing).
But I did think of you. I knew you would still be writing, creating, brainstorming, musing, thinking of all the possibilities in the world where you could take this. And you have. And I'd like to tell you how much I admire and am grateful for this.
As for your essay - YES. All of the yes. I have held for awhile now that whilst WE (being that generation that grew up with the books and with the characters) grew up, the characters did not mature as the some of the readers did. I still find it hard to believe that many of the fics I've read on this site are not actually canon, as some of them have actually captured the characters and spirit more completely than I thought possible.
But keep doing this, all of it! The writing, the revamping and everything. And hopefully I will be more around to participate in it this time.
That fic I'm writing might be up for your approval/disapproval sooner than I thought.
Can't wait until your next update.
