I wonder why there aren't more reviews.

The plot thickens. I'm really worried about Draco - if he is going to make it, but even more, I'm worried about what is going to happen to Ginny. Obviously the head auror is going to use her as a leverage against Harry and Harry - he will be angry with her obviously. Actually, I wouldn't be surprise i there was a ploy to get Ginny in the first place.

Waiting for what's next!

Author's Response: It seems quiet around here lately overall, but as long as I'm still enjoying writing the story and there's even just one person out there wanting to read on, then I'll happily continue to write and share. Thank you for chiming in, pitzi, and as to your speculations...you'll just have to wait and see. ;) I hope you'll enjoy the next chapter too.

The Shadow By My Finger Cast by Anise    (Reviews - 66)

Yep. That second new chapter is actually here. This fic will continue!! :)

The sequel to Draco's Dangerous Dilemma.

Nearly two years have passed since Ginny saw Draco in a coffeeshop for the first time after the war. The two of them have been trapped in a seemingly neverending cycle of lust, betrayal, revenge, and despair ever since-- until one night of passion at the Pureblood Ball proved to them both that their bond could never be broken.

But there's a world outside the fragile love budding between the pair. And Ginny just may find out that Draco's past casts a shadow that neither of them can outrun in time to save him...

Chapter NINE Quote of the Day:

“So here’s where we are,” she said. “The sketches are ready. The clay models are done. I’m happy with them. You?”

“Very much so,” said Draco. His mouth quirked upwards. “Remember Bob Ross and his Happy Trees? I’d never have believed then that we’d reach this point, but we have.”

“We’ve come a long way since then,” said Ginny. She remembered how furious she was when she first learned that she’d be working with Draco on the fountain project, and that he’d somehow finagled his way into the Junior Minister of Art position. How snippy and cold she’d tried to be to him; how snarky he’d been to her in return. How exhausted he’d always looked, too, and how much she had wanted to smooth away the dark circles from under his eyes and put a real smile on his handsome face. She’d threatened to report him to the Minister of Art and have someone else reassigned to her; she was ashamed to think of that now.

“We certainly have,” said Draco, giving her one of his real smiles, the sort she’d never imagined his face could possibly form in those days. She tried not to smile in return. She wanted to remain as serious as possible.

Oh, thank you! (blushes).

1. Arghhh...Ron! How typical! i enjoyed every moment of him being a toad.

2. Ginny here kinda reminds me of Ginny from the first chapters of DDD.

3. This chapter was quite a saddening insight as to what kind of a reaction Draco and Ginny are going to get from the Weasleys and others once they reveal their relationship. I'm not sure if Ron is going to come around at all and George will probably let it rest only when he has actual proof that Draco cares for Ginny. By the way, are he and Hermione together now?
And I'm not even talking about Molly's reaction. Sunday Dinner of Doom indeed.

I kinda dread how our couple will take all the antagonizm, considering they are not yet a real couple. They have a lot of work cut out for them to make their relationship work. For starters, Ginny has to learn to trust Draco, which is extremely difficult giving her past experience and the fact that Draco actually does have another motive beside the one he explains in almost everything he does. She can't even sound convincing about draco's intentions towards her and her family are going to pick up on that. Also, it looks like Draco has to learn to trust Ginny as well. It is obvious that he was dreading that Ginny might not come back. Though perhaps he also wasn't sure that her family would let her leave.

I really hope they make it but I'm afraid that Draco hasn't completely earned Ginny's trust yet. Still, I think Ginny ought to give him a chance and keep her second guessing to herself for a while.
Obviously the divorce isn't going to go smoothly and Draco will need Ginny's support. They'll both need each other and I can only hope that the trials will strenthen their relationship and not ruin it.

That was long.

Thanks a lot for the chapter and, as always, waiting eagerly for more.

Author's Response: Thanks for writing the poem! :) Poor Ron. He never learns, does he? But I don't think he's going to have a choice here. Now, as for that Sunday dinner... I was snickering while writing it, if that gives you any clue. ;) Ginny and Draco really do have so many hurdles ahead of them in the near future. Some of them are of their own making, and some... aren't. There's so much coming up! More soon... And never apologize for a long review! ;)

When Draco said that he shouldn't have let Ginny face the Weasleys alone I thought "Are you trying to get invited to the sunday dinner?" Because that will go so well! Actually I'm looking forward towards that dinner. my imagination as to what could happen runs wild. Especially if Molly secretly invited Harry because he and Ginny haven't spent much time together lately (wouldn't that be just like her?).

And I cherish every tender moment between Draco and Ginny.

Author's Response: Oh, that Sunday dinner! (snerk) I'm not even going to say ANYTHING about that guess. But yes, I also think that there was a lot of tenderness in this chapter's smut. :) Little by little, they're both falling...

When I got to the end of the chapter I fully sympathised with Ginny's frustration with Drco's teasing! To end a chapter like this! Your teasing might be worse than his.

Draco's noble urges make me laugh. Fortunately, Ginny is so fed up with nobility from certain people in her life that she won't let him be noble to her.

Thanks and hoping for the next chapter soon!

Author's Response: Snerk... I don't think anybody could match up to Draco's teasing. ;) But he does have his noble moments at the worst times, doesn't he? Much more soon...

Reviewer: pitzi Signed

Oh, i liked this chapter so much! it was so emotional! Ginny's nerves cracked because she was worried about him and in the end I was actually glad that all they did was go to sleep because, as I already said, there was so much emotion showing between them and that rarely happens.

also i liked that even though Draco wanted to protect Ginny from his dirty divorse process, he was ready to drop this noble streak for Ginny to stay with him. I think harry in similar situation would have agreed for Ginny to leave and feel good about it because it's "all about protecting her". Ginny doesn't like that kind of attitude and I think Draco will allow her to make her own decisions, what Harry wasn't prepared to do.

And I learned another important thing - Ginny still doesn't completely trust Draco!! They still have a long way of building their relationship ahead of them

And I liked Draco saying: "Yes. Whatever you say. Just stay with me. You can’t leave, Ginny; not now. Stay, and we’ll have rows and throw crockery or something at one another in the morning".

Author's Response: Thanks! :) Yes, I just felt that that was how the chapter had to end. Smut WILL come into the fic again later, something is telling me. ;) Draco just couldn't be noble enough in the end to let go of Ginny (he keeps having noble moments at the worst times, doesn't he?) And it's true that she doesn't totally trust him. But... should she? We'll find out more about that soon...

Oh, dear! Who kidnapped Draco now? I could so sympathize with Ginny!!! I am sure that Draco was delayed for a very good reason and perhaps Harry or Lucius were involved to keep him from coming to the presentation, but still, poor Ginny always has to be the one to deal with awkward situations alone.

I like it how the inanims view Ginny as part of the family now. Does it mean that she now obtained at least a partial protection from Lucius?

As always, I'm excited for more!

Author's Response: Poor Ginny... well, I'll let the readers decide that!;) She's going to find out a lot more about what Draco was doing, let's just say. The Inanims will do everything they can for Ginny from now on, but I'm not exactly sure what would happen if it came down to a choice between her and Lucius. It's a fascinating question, though. But my feeling is that they would protect her because *Draco* is the Malfoy heir, and she is so strongly linked to him now. More soon...

Oh, I'm so exited! Finally the sequel!!
Congratulations!

I think this chapter has the feel of the calm before the storm. Like Ginny points out they have to face real life now and everybody's reaction to their relationship and there's Draco's devorse that obviously isn't going to go smoothly.

I really can't wait for what's next but it obviously won't be the ordinary life Ginny thinks of.

Author's Response: Thanks! Yes, that's a very good way to describe this chapter. There's SO much facing these two. Some of it is obvious from the beginning (the reactions of others, problems with the divorce/annulment, etc.,) and some of it is not yet clear at all. More coming soon!

Ha, ha. Harry and Astoria, pair extraordinaire... Draco is quite arrogant and while he knows that his divorce won't go smoothly, he doesn't take the threat seriously enough. He's quite content with knowing that Ginny is safe, but I doubt that she really is.

Ginny is a little naive to think they will be able to hide their relationship from public.

Also I think she should be more willing to accept Draco's gifts. I understand her reluctance and her fear of feeling like a paid mistress, but she should realize Draco's need to give. He obviously has to go a long way to be able to give emotionally, so this is his only available way to give. She shouldn't deny him so vehemently.

Thank you for updating despite the huge project that you have undertaken in regards to your stories!

Author's Response: Thanks! :) Yes, Draco and Ginny are quite a pair here. He refuses to take the threat as seriously as he should, and she's really fooling herself into thinking that they can keep anyone from knowing about them. There's more about why Ginny is so reluctant to accept things from Draco in the next chapter... personally, I would've taken that Kensington Palace Gardens flat. ;) More soon!

I really look forward to that!!!

Author's Response: Thanks! :) (Does Happy Finished Fics dance.) I just kind of feel like these fics should either be finished or come down off the site (or, well, any site.) There's more than one reason for this, and I'll talk about it in the next chapter.

Firstly, I wish you lots of luck with publishing in the real world! When it happens let us know!!!!

Secondly, it looks to me that you are putting The Shadow on hold in order to finish other stories. It's kinda sad if this is so because this story is fresh in mind, but obviouly it's very difficult to work on several stories at the same time.

Thirdly, as I said in a previous review, i'm looking forward to all your stories being updated.

And someone should write a Harem D/G story! I think it has such a great potential!

Author's Response: Thanks! I will DEFINITELY keep everyone updated on that. ;) I don't know about Shadow... the issue is that there are two conflicting things going on there. I do know exactly what's happening next. OTOH, one thing I forgot to put in the last chapter of the Guide (I think I'll edit it) is that even though DDD is finished, it's one that needs to be edited. If I keep writing Shadow at the same time as the revisions (which I'd like to do,) then it would be written from the POV of the edited DDD. Although it's NOT that anything about DDD would actually change... some unnecessary stuff would just be cut out. Anyway, lots of stuff coming soon!

Wow! I'M hooked!! It was such a nice surprise to see your new story. I really really like "Crossing into Chaos" and this story is also very very intriguing.

Draco's motives are mysterious right now but also it looks like not everything is the way that Ginny thinks it to be.

Waiting for more!

Author's Response: Thanks for the comment! Draco's motives are definitely mysterious - we'll find out a bit more about what's going on with him sooner or later...

This chapter was such a nice surprise. The story is incredibly intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

While Draco is by no means innocent, it looks like Ginny was thoroughly brainwashed by the Ministry. She thinks in Ministry's slogans and sentences. Obviously what the Ministry whants it's followers to believe isn't exactly what is really happening.

And I really like that Draco is so enigmatic here.

I wonder what happens when Ginny returns to her camp. They might not believe her story and call her a traitor and a spy.

Thank you for the very pleasurable reading!

Author's Response: Thanks! There are definitely two sides to the conflict. Ginny hasn't had much exposure to the other side (mostly because they spend so much time trying to kill her). There will be a glimpse of life inside the Ministry camp in the next chapter, which may help clear things up a bit.

Oh, my! I'm in complete shock! I totally never expected this! I was reading on pretty shure that Victor will go to the ministry with Ginny and then - such an ending! I admire your abilities !

I'm so afraid for Ginny right now that it overshadows the fact that she remained without a witness. I only hope that by some miracle she will manage to overpower Flint and bring him in to custody, or that someone will interfere on her behalf again. Otherwise, I don't even want to think what Marcus can do to her. So I really hope for a soon update!

And Draco is such a git for opening his mouth about himself and Ginny. Vindictive bastard. I want to punch him. I hope Ginny does.

Thank you for the new chapter!

Author's Response: Now you wouldn't respect me if I were /that/ easy, would you? I don't want to give anything away, though, so I'm going to keep my mouth shut. Update will be on Saturday! :)

Reviewer: pitzi Signed

Oh, how wonderful that you updated! I've been really waiting for the new chapter!

I like Blaise. So he's been keeping tubs on Ginny for Draco or was it his own idea? It wasn't really clear to me.

And Ginny should have learnt that she won't get an answer out of Draco about what she means to him if she asks it straight to his face. She needs to find a roundabout way to learn what she wants.

The end of the chapter was a real shocker to me! I mean Hermione demanding that Ginny turns Draco in. I suppose she will do it (though obviously she didn't think things through when she turned to Hermione for help. She could have expected something like that). I'm really curious as to how she's going to go about it. Will she just alert the Aurors without any explanation to Draco (I hope not, this will be ugly), or is she going to explain her reasons to him? I don't think Draco will react lightly to that in either case. Will he believe her that she's not doing it out of revenge but for his own good?

That being said I actually think that it is very wise to remove Draco from Ginny's flat while she is investigating. He distracts her and she can't think clearly around him. She'll also have enough stimuli to put all he efforts to this so that Draco doesn't spend too much time in holding cells.

Anyway, and whatever happens, I'm really looking forward towards the net chapter!!

Author's Response: I'm glad you're excited for the update! It took me a long time for me to be happy with this chapter, but hopefully you found it worth the wait ;). Blaise is one of my favorite characters in this story - to be honest, I think I like him more than Draco at this point ;). The idea was that Blaise was doing Draco a favor by keeping an eye on Ginny, which was why Draco was upset a few chapters ago when Ginny said that she had been meeting up with Blaise - he didn't want Ginny to find out that he was worried about her! As far as what's going to happen next... obviously, I can't just tell you whether or not Ginny is going to follow through on Hermione's demands, but in any case, it's pretty obvious that Draco will not be happy with her - she ultimately did exactly what he asked her not to, regardless of whether or not she thought she was doing him a favor. And definitely, Draco is a distraction to her, as demonstrated by the conversation Ginny had with Blaise at the bar after her row with Draco. She is in love with him, and he really does cloud her judgment. I hope to update soon, and thanks for being such a faithful reader ;).

Reviewer: pitzi Signed
Date: Jul 13, 2013 Title: Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Thank you for updating after such a short while!!!

I really feel for Ginny. This was obviously an extremely hard decision and she can't know whether or not Draco will forgive her. She understood that by doing the right thing she might have killed her chance of any future with him.

On the other hand, if Draco can't trust her then what kind of a relationship could they possibly have?

And so I remain optimistic and really hope that Narcissa will be cured, Draco will be cleared of all charges and there will be a happy end for them together... A person can hope!

Thank you again for the wonderful story and the way you manage to convey such complex emotions!

Author's Response: I'm glad you were able to sympathize with Ginny in this chapter because, as I was writing it, I wasn't sure if it was completely right. I don't usually like to write her so emotional, but given what she had to do, I didn't think there was any other way to go about it realistically. I'm glad that everything came through really well for you; I wanted it to be perfectly clear that Draco and Ginny - though they obviously care for one another - could never work romantically the way that they are right now. Even though he trusts her with certain details of his life, he still thinks that she will turn her back on him or that she will hurt him. If she spends all of her time trying to be his best friend and never gives him the kick in the ass that he needs, he will never know if a relationship with them would be plausible because Ginny just can't please him all the time. Going behind his back, if nothing else, proves that she can make the hard decisions, and if Draco can't respect that and just assumes that she is betraying him, then maybe they just can't be together.

As for how the story ends for Narcissa and Draco, I can't tell you what will happen, but I'm so glad that you are interested enough in the story to care about the characters!

First of all, thank you for this really good story, your talent is amazing!

The closure left me thinking. It left me with a feeling that Draco will not treat Ginny right. We don't se any attempt on his part to commit himself to making this work. Even though Ginny makes it very easy for him by only requesting honesty, we don't see him actually agreeing with her.

Which leads me to think that perhaps Draco is right and Ginny's infatuation with him is partly unhealthy.

Maybe that chapter from Draco's point of view will shed more light on the true nature of what is happening between them. After all we see things through Ginny;s eyes in this story.

So this ending is different than in most stories where we know that things will work out, so it's refreshing.

Thank you again for the story!

Author's Response: Thanks for your review! I am hoping that the bonus chapter will make Draco and his feelings for Ginny a bit more clear. And I'm so glad that you liked the ending! A happily ever after did not sit right with me; I felt that it would have been immensely OOC, and I spent far too much time writing this to allow it to end like that. I will post the bonus chapter very soon!

Oh, oh!

It's been a while I've seen such a complicated Draco in stories! It's really good! Also, you manage to drive Ginny's point of view across to the reader very well. just like to Ginny Draco seemed decent one moment and vile the other. Especially in the end. Was that his way to try and repel her from investigating?
Somehow it looks like what happened between them back then, when he left her and went to auror academy has something to do with Harry, if Draco's reaction to him in this chapter is any indicator.
And surprisingly enough I actually feek sorry for Harry.

thanks for the great chapter!

Author's Response: I'm glad you're enjoying this because I was actually not sure if I liked this chapter or not. Draco was absolutely trying to deter her from investigating, absolutely, but the real question is why doesn't he want her to. And Harry fits in there somewhere, I promise!

This was a very emotionally charged chapter and you made a great job of it!!!

I rooted for Ginny and I was very happy for her for standing her ground. You managed to convey her difficulty and struggle to keep her emotions in check really well.

And it looks like Draco is seeing Ginny in a new light. We'll see how much he likes what he sees. He is obviously attracted to her but now something else might be starting too.

And it is so like Draco to try and convey his gratitude in a phisical way because emotional isn't something he knows how to do.

Thank you for the fantastic read and I hope to read a new chapter really soon.

Author's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed this. I wasn't sure how people would take this chapter. I wanted their relationship to move forward a bit, but I wanted it to be progress realistically. And I agree, Draco isn't great at saying what he feels, so he has to show it. I am hoping to update soon, and thank you so much for your review! :)

Argh! you ended it just when things got really interesting!

Ha, ha! Draco must be really desperate if he dares to come to Ginny for help after what happened the last time he saw her.
I wonder if he keeps tubs on her. is he avare of what just happened?

I think Draco knows that Flint is after him and he goes after every important person in Draco's life. That could be the reason that Draco wanted to keep Ginny from the investigation - because she is a target. Or maybe I'm making him better than he is.

I like your Pansy. She's a true Slytherin but not in a nasty way.

And why isn't Blaise a target? Isn't he a friend of Draco's?

Author's Response: Thanks for your review! In regards to Draco coming to Ginny, the only thing I will say is that we'll find out in the next chapter whether or not he knew about Marcus, but don't look down too much at Draco. He can't help the way he is ;). For Blaise... just remember his reaction when Ginny told him she was going to talk to Marcus. And I'm so gad you like Pansy! I was actually really worried about her characterization because I wanted her to be just right, so I'm so glad she came off exactly as I wanted her to. I hope to put the next chapter up soon! Stay tuned ;).

Thank you for the new chapter!

I liked the Ron-Ginny moment. I'm really tired of all the stories where they don't get along to an extreme.

Pansy is funny and I felt sorry for Daphne.

I hope Ginny makes it.

And I'm still pondering the reasons why Draco is in hiding and why he wants to keep Ginny away from the investigation. Is he concerned and doesn't want her to get hurt? Is he covering for someone? He could be because hiding he is only directing more suspicion towards himself. It also could be that since all the evedence points at him as the murderer, he is trying to gather evidence against the real culprit and he can't do it locked up. So many possibilities. I hope the answers come soon.

Author's Response: Thank you for such an insightful review! I'm glad you liked the brother-sister moment. It was one of my favorite parts to write in this chapter. The Slytherin girls are definitely important in this story, and there will be much more about them in the next chapter. And Draco has a few reasons for being in hiding, which will be revealed actually sooner than you may think! I already have 1000 words or so of chapter 8, so hopefully I'll get the next chapter up soon! :)

Wow!!! I'm so happy Ginny overpowered the bastard! (points to Hermione for the spray). It's remarkable that Ginny succeeded to pull herself together for long enough to stun Marcus. It's a good think that the nervous breakdown came after that. Ginny can pull herself together when necessary and that's great.

And I'm happy that harry and Blaise arrived to stop her from doing something awful.

Ha, and I was always sure that Astoria will turn up alive. Poor Ginny. That means more suffering in the heart department for her! As if she hasn't had enough turmoil these past days. I hope Draco will make it up to her for the rest of his life. Some begging wouldn't hurt him either.

I hope you update soon again and thank you so much!

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! I didn't want to have Blaise and Harry show up /too/ soon because this scene needed to be Ginny's moment, and I felt like them coming to her rescue wouldn't be very empowering to her. She needed to take him down herself. As for what will happen now that we know Astoria is still alive... you will see very soon! :P

I wonder why this only got 2 reviews. It deserves more!!! Perhaps summer is to blame.

I think it's hard to write a story in first person. One of the hardships is to get other people's thoughts and feelings.
I think you handling this quite well.

I'm really intrigued to find out what happens eventually and Blaise is a worthy addition to almost any story.

My only problem is that I try to avoid stories where Draco or Ginny die. Since yours has a character death warning Im anxious. Is there any way for you to tell if the warning actually refers to one of them or to other character ?

Anyway thanks a lot for this story!

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! Actually, the warning applies to minor characters. I won't kill off Draco or Ginny. :)

thank you for another chapter!

I was really happy to see you updated!

As irritating as it is to Ginny, all the people that are concerned with her well being actually have a point and Draco caught on immediately that she wasn't over him and he will use it again.

Another question is , does Draco still feel something for Ginny (if he did in the first place).

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm going to update this again really soon, I promise. And of course, her friends and family are absolutely justified in their concern, but remember this is from her point of view, and she just doesn't see it that way. And as for Draco, his motives and feelings in regard to Ginny will become clear very soon. I promise! :)

Oh, dear! Ginny really has no idea what she is doing! And she was warned about Flint! Though of course, as she says herself, she doesn't trust anything a Slytherin says these days. it's funny she trusted Flint to go with him towards Nockturn Alley. Which brings me back to the first sentence of my review. Ginny does tend to be reckless, so it's definitely in character for her.

Also, this chapter brings lots of questions. Obviously Daphne and Flint know more about this whole business than they show. Also I think that Blaise knows more too, only he wants Ginny to figure it out herself without getting involved himself. Also, I think Harry also knows more than he told Ginny. Somehow him showing up right then doesn't strike me as a mere coincidence (or maybe he was tipped off?).

This means that I'm really waiting for the next chapters!!!

Author's Response: I'm glad you're enjoying the story. :) No, I'm afraid Ginny really has no idea what she's doing - in any aspect of her life. I won't give any indication of whether or not you're right about the characters knowing more than you're letting on, but I promise that there will be lots of things revealed thoughout this story. Next chapter will be up soon, as it has already been submitted ;).
