Charcoal and Paint by jessica k malfoy    (Reviews - 56)

He looked at the wall for a long time. “I can paint anything I want?” he asked finally.

She nodded. “Anything.”

“I want to paint you.”

This was written for the D/G Fic Exchange over at Livejournal and yall... I won FIVE awards. FIVE!!! I can't even believe it! I'm so elated! This story is seriously one of the most beautifully written ones I've ever read, and can tell you I've read a LOT of D/G. Your writing is so dégagé and the words flow so easily that they really manage to convey the content perfectly. Also, the story has a kind of effortless simplicity to it without losing on complexity, which is really rare.

"Despite the dark marks of her pencil, the person on the page shone brightly, emitting sadness and lonel[iness] that she wasn’t even aware could translate to paper, even in the rough beginnings of her sketch. (...) On the page, the sky behind him was illuminated by the snow and he gave off a faint glow of light and heat, but it was anything but warm. It was lonesome."

I love this so much! It is (in my opinion, anyway) the perfect description of Draco from Ginny's perspective at this point of the story, and the fact that you didn't narrate it through her thoughts but by making her draw and then interpret it this way makes it even more special.

I'm looking forward to accompanying you on the journey of posting this story here and re-entering the world of 'Charcoal and Paint' you so ingeniously created again! :)

PS. If you were wondering; yes, I'm the person who left you the ridiculously long review over at the dgficexchange journal. :)

Author's Response: and i loved all of your long review over at LJ! lol thank you for this. I really appreciate it. i worked hard and i think my beta's worked harder, so i am so glad that i won. i won't lie - i REALLY wanted to win! haha. hopefully all of your comments will follow me with my "regular" writing & i'll get published sooner rather than later. that would be awesome! thank you for noticing that quote also. i purposely strive to "show not tell" although i wish it came easy to me! i'm so glad you noticed that :D

The Journey Home by gidge_8    (Reviews - 56)

Ginny skips out on her last year at Hogwarts to go in search of answers in a troubled post-Voldemort world. What she finds along the way is a mad-eyed mentor, a mystery around the murder of Lucius Malfoy, and an adventure that teaches her far more than she thought possible.

Written for tudorrose1533 in the 2011 DG Fic Exchange. Nominated in six categories, winner: Best Minor character.

Note: this story will have one additional scene that was not part of the fic exchange posting. It will be NC-17.

I'm not sure anymore if I left a review when I first read this story at the dgficexchange, but I loved it so much! I also voted for it, so I'm quite pleased it won the Best Supporting Character award. :)

Thank you for posting it here as well, I'm so excited about re-reading it!

Author's Response: Oh! Thank you so much for the vote! I was actually surprised by the number of nominations because I thought the story needed more work, but I had to submit it by the deadline. :) I do hope you enjoy the extra scene that I'll be adding here. :)
Best wishes!

So much suspense! And Draco's being protective of Ginny is so excellently done that it doesn't feel out of character at all. On to the next chapter! :)

Author's Response: I suspect he's not trying to be obvious about it, but I think he's not all that fond of Flint. Glad you are enjoying! :)

"(...) he wasn't as rough or harsh as she'd expected. If anything, his actions were deliberate and unhurried and his touch held a hint of gentleness and reverence combined with raw need."

LOVE this. Scenes where Draco is being gentle with Ginny are always my favorite.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm really glad. I see Draco as a very complicated person, and I don't think he opens up easily, but in situations like this, his real feelings come out. I'm so glad you enjoyed.
Best wishes

This just made me smile! (: Short and sweet (but not overly so to make any of them out of character).

Author's Response: Thank you! :)
