I am absolutely speechless! That was a marvelous gem of fic. The timing was perfection. The unfolding of Draco's predicament was masterful. The humor was outrageous. And the way it all 'came' together at the end - well, an astonishing climax! Thank you for giving Ginny the upper hand in this fic and creating a stumbling, resolution ladden Draco! I CRAZY LOVED IT!!!! ***claps wildly while jumping up and down*** -fallenwitch

Author's Response: Wow! I hardly know how to respond to such praise. *Blushes* I\'m glad you liked it so much! And, I like your little pun, too! (I put a small one in the summary--did you catch it?)

All I Want For Christmas by Rhina    (Reviews - 37)

Ginny decides that all she wants for Christmas is Draco who is longing for her as well. Time and distance leave them separated with no idea that one is longing for the other.

I really didn't intend to read your WHOLE story. I just wanted a peek... that one peek lead to another and another and the next thing I knew I was leaning over my computer scene, ignoring the telephone ringing and the supper burning on the stove, so I could find out what happens when Draco shows up on her doorstep... Your first person narrative is well done and your characters are fabulous. I am partial to fics from snarky Draco's POV, and I found the two chapters devoted to his POV were immensely satisfying! My only complaint is that I was flying through this fic at the speed of lightening only to hit a wall and collapse in a pile at the bottom of my computer...chapter 4 is not up yet. Oh well, I will go and eat my burnt supper and wait patiently for your next chapter. Nicely done! -fallenwitch

Author's Response:

WOW.  Thank you.  As someone who gets sucked into fanfics regularly, it is a real compliment to have my own work do that to someone else.  And I have a special fondness for snarky!Draco myself so mine are always rather more rude than they are nice.  Who wants a nice Draco after all!  Chapter 4 should be up as soon as the Cabal has a chance and Chapter 5 is 1/4 way written.  Thanks again for the wonderful compliment - it made my whole night!

A Common Cure by Black Alnair    (Reviews - 158)

AU. Draco Malfoy has an uncommon skill and he offers his services to the Order of the Phoenix to protect his mother. But as his importance to the Order grows, his strength and will slackens. Finally, all Draco wants is peace, but can Ginny Weasley help him find peace with her before he seeks it in the Dark?

This story takes place after OotP but uses a few elements from HBP.

**And now includes illustrations! Thanks to the rulers of the DG universe, er...the Cabal, for letting me post them here!**

Just stumbled onto this gem of a fic. Why didn't I read it before? I am drawn to your characterization of Draco. Who gives a damn if he's a bit OOC? He's spectacular. His internal state of angst and insecurities and unknown Black Alnair demons are reflected in his fragile external physical state as well. This is how I conceptualize him as well - internally tortured beyond belief - but you take that one step further. I love his attachment to Ginny. Our 'healer' is terrified of the healing powers of his love for her and of her love for him, yet he cannot help but be drawn to her. God, he maybe a Malfoy, but he needs her love to sustain him, esp. now. Will it, perhaps, save him in the end? Hmmm... I have no fears that they will fall for anyone other than each other, not with the way you have created them. I think I'll sign on for this ride. Thanks for the air time and for your wonderful fic! I will shut up now. -fallenwitch

Author's Response: I don\'t think I\'m terribly against you going on at all, especially in regards to your own fics. =) I espeically find it interesting how er, you\'ve characterized my characters? However, I don\'t want to reveal too much. All in due time. Thanks again for the excellent review!!

Noooooo! I kept looking around, sure there was another paragraph or two. When that failed, I fell over that cliff, staring into the abysmal darkness of that damn waiting game - hoping to hang on by the tips of my fingernails until your next chapter and some relief. Jeez...my heart is breaking for them. Well, at least they now realize the depth of the love they have for each other and the associated pain that goes with the loss of such a thing. Small consolation when you have to snog Dean or try to beat back your newly realized heart...argh!!! Yep, a most satisfying chapter which didn't disappoint in the least.

Wow, I had no idea this was your first fic. I am very impressed! Nah, Boalt doesn't make admissions mistakes. Pat yourself on the back! UCBerkeley? Love it! Love it! Love it! I'm a third generation grad myself! Cheers. -fallenwitch

Author's Response: Well, I\'m sorry to prolong the waiting for as long as I will have to this time around. (I suppose I shouldn\'t be responding to reviews now then...) But in any case, thank you again for another stunning and thoughtful review! I\'ve actually never thought I would EVER write any fanfic. Even after I got sucked into the DG fandom. But well, this cookie wouldn\'t leave and here you have it! 3rd generation, huh? We\'ll have to see where my family loyalities end up lying bc my sister and I (or at least, I will soon enough) graduated from UCLA. I almost went to Cal for undergrad, changed my mind the last minute. I still run into ppl who think I go there. Well, I suppose they\'re right now!

Oh god, yes! The twists and turns in this one left me with that queasy feeling, like I've been on one rollercoaster too many. If you write one more misunderstanding for D/G, I may trip over and land face first myself! But it was brilliant and painful and heartwrenching to see Draco and Ginny hurting for no reason. Thank you so much for updating. I hope you get your computer fixed soon - for all our sakes! -fallenwitch

Author's Response: Haha, you should be talking! I\'m still in suspense over \"The Slytherin\'s Witch.\" And you\'ve started something new too! Not that I\'m complaining...but well, I hope to work by example then.

Reviewer: fallenwitch Signed
Date: May 03, 2006 Title: Chapter 10: Chapter 7 - Reckless

Good lord, woman, you've managed to turn the world upside down in the last couple of chapters. All those decent, noble, do-gooders have gone bad - from Harry and Ron and Ginny to, of all people, Arthur Weasley. They've all been too quick to jump to the wrong conclusion without anything resembling the merest hint of a fair trial for poor Hermione and Draco. And for Arthur to put his selfish need to save his own son above what Draco's life and what he needs to do for his mother and the Order, well, it's blasphemy - pure and simple blasphemy! Blaise and Draco, two "nasty" Slytherins going to Hermione's rescue (and perhaps a bit more than just a rescue for Blaise) and then Draco selflessly deciding to help Fred, well, it's all so very unSlytherin. The only thing holding up in this turbulent scene is that tiny, unmistakable connection between Draco and Ginny, despite all conscious thought and desire on both their parts. That connection has made Draco a better, strong person, and has made Ginny, well, a jealous unreasonable witch with an attitude way bigger than she deserves. And what of that healing stone, anyway? What does that do? Can it heal all of the emotional turbulence and angst running rampant in this fic? If so, I'll take a dozen, please.

Oh, my favorite line in this one was, "stood a thin, angular boy with white-blond hair," because I love your characterization of Draco with all of his vulnerabilites and esp. his physical weakness in this one.

I am thorougly enjoying the questioning of the usual Hogwarts assumptions about characters and houses and forcing us to look further than that. Yes, it does make Neville look like a bit of a hero in that regard, doesn't it? Whew. Signing off until your next, next chapter! I enjoy your illustrations, but I enjoy your writing even more. -fallenwitch

Author's Response: I really really should be working right now and I apologize if some of this is incoherent since I\'m burning on two hours of sleep...however, I could not help but respond on account of the Gryffindors. I don\'t think I\'ve completely inverted them but showed, hopefully (but please let me know if I have failed to do this), that Gryffindors aren\'t entirely noble and infalliable but rather, human like everyone else. Likewise, Draco and Blaise are human too. Not entirely evil but suspect to feelings of duty, compliance, lust/love. While Arthur\'s move was selfish, I think it was natural and almost beyond reproach. He doesn\'t think Draco will DIE but he knows his own son will without the proper assistance. Arthur stands at a divide, between duty (to Draco, to the Order) and love (for his own son). To me, the choice is clear. And as for your other speculation, to be answered as soon as I can...Well, sorry for sounding off but I do value your assessment and I hope that I have not horribly misrepresented these characters. Again, thanks for a very thorough review!

This is the second time I've dropped by to read this chapter. I was so blown away by it the first time around, I knew I needed another try to absorb what you were trying to say. Maybe a third time would do it. Honestly, woman, I just don't know. It was fabulous! But now I feel dumb. I LOVED the references to the ancient Druids and the Draconis constellation guarding the heavens and Draco's birth being marked by the Winter Solstice and Narcissa guarding Draco. Just what is the source of a wizard's power? Well, it seems like Dumbledore is suggesting that Draco's inability to cure Narcissa lies in his lack of connections to others. Did he want to self-destruct when he offered to cure Fred Weasley? “I think you did go with the intention of destroying yourself. Of giving in. But something, someone, changed your mind. I don’t know what it was, but Draco, don’t shun it.” I do!!! **raises hand in the air, waving it like bloody Granger** It was Ginny, of course. His connection with her will be his strength of power. It will enable him to harness his ancient gift of healing from the Black line. In loving Ginny and being loved back, he will be able to cure Narcissa and not be drained of his physical or emotional strength. Now, all you have to do is to get those two dweebs back together. Okay, that's about as far out on a limb as I'd like to go. Good lord, the branch is starting to snap! Quick, Black Alnair, start writing!!! Hey, I didn't say I KNEW what was going to happen. I just said this is my current, working hypothesis, okay?

Oh, BTW, I didn't notice a lack of D/G interaction because I've been so enthralled with what's been going on with Draco. I thought the conversation with Dumbledore was superb. I also loved the way you described him looking at his own wrist, translucent skin and bones jutting out. Remarkable chapter. Thanks for writing it!

Author's Response: Oh, that\'s an interesting theory... I don\'t know why you feel dumb. You come up with some of the most convoluted ideas. Things that I have not included or plan to include (after all, they are your ideas!) in my work. And I do try to be all so subtle... I just love reading your hypotheses! Thanks for speculating! ;)

God, I just love your Draco. Love him! This chapter has my head spinning but it was all about connections again, wasn't it? I find the idea of duel connectivity fascinating - things can pass both ways - and poor Draco sees himself as a leper, doesn't he? He feels he has nothing but horrible, dark, and evil things to give to others. The ending was spectacular. So long in coming and so unexpected. I imagined the connection b/n D&G to be an emotional/spiritual one that healed but it seems it is more than that - the physical connection will enable them to begin the connection that heals - to stop holding each other at arms' length emotionally and otherwise. It was a beautiful, poignant chapter that brought many, many threads together. BTW, I not only condone what happened at the end of this chapter but I applaud it and you for sticking to your writer's instinct! Bravo, BlackAlnair. Thank you so much for the update!!!!!

Author's Response: Thanks for your continuous praise! I love Draco as much as I love to tortue him in my own little fictional world... I hope you like the next two especially. I have omnious things planned for him... Think Beethoveen\'s 9th...er, I think it\'s 9th...

OMG, Draco's a Dementor! He's just given Bella the kiss! Wait, that doesn't have anything to do with Alice in Wonderland, does it?

Well, you have just forced me to break my month long promise not to read any fanfic until NaNoWriMo was over. Who cares? It was a fabulous, glorious chapter. Two more chapters? Is it possible? Is Draco an Alice-like character, confused and pushed around and in the end the one who emerges from it all after turning the world on its head? And Dumbledore? Is he the King who pardons everyone? Isn't he the one who told Draco he had a choice - he could use his powers to heal or not as he saw fit? That he could be whoever he wanted to be? Obviously, I have no freaking idea of what is going on but will doggedly hang on until the end.

Thank you for updating one of my favourite fics! How noble was that? Draco falling on the sword to save Ginny's life? Did he just save his own by being willing to give up his life for hers? Same bat time. Same bat channel... I'll be here!

Author's Response: Haha, that\'s the funniest comment I\'ve had in a long time. Gosh, Alice in Wonderland is disturbing enough without any *kissing* involved!

Thank you for this long awaited and much anticipated chapter. I could not have been more thrilled to see it!

Excuse me but WTF? This chapter has just unhinged me. Yes, Draco's death and resurrection by love and magic and the exploding Horcrux seem to have been too much for my delicate constitution. My head hurts.

The Horcrux threw me off. I was not expecting that and did not see it coming - at all. I guess I suck at ferreting out your foreshadowing. Maybe if I got out my microscope, I would stand a better chance. *smirks* I still feel at a loss to pull together all of the other clues you have dropped along the way and am hoping your final chapter gives me a bit of closure there. No, not left hanging just unsure about the significance what happened here.

I've confess to reading this fic a total of 3 times! The first time, I ended up intrigued but confused. The second time, I cheated and read your reviews & responses BEFORE I read it, and then expended much energy making sure I understood the damn thing. The third time was a charm. I laughed and hooted my way through the glorious thing - maybe even outdoing Ginny herself at the end! I NEVER read something more than once so why 3 times? I don't know. I was intrigued by your use of language. Very witty and quick - so quick that when I blinked, I missed something crucial. I liked that. I also thought it was a bold move to go for a humorous fic your first time out. Now that I've almost created a fic out of this review, I will sign off. Good job! - fallenwitch

Didn't know where to end it, eh? Well, you ended it too damn soon! Argh!!! Another great chapter that continues to ratchet up that sexual tension. I had two favorite parts this time. His peacock Patrons! What else? And this line, "Merlin, you're not as light as I'd have thought." Just the right combination of familiarity and snarkiness! Love it and can't wait for your next update! -fallenwitch

Author's Response: Oh man, I felt pretty inspired when I decided his Patronus should be a peacock - it\'s just soooooooooooooooo him. We might learn later what Ginny\'s Patronus is... Also I imagine that though Ginny is really short, she\'s pretty sturdy (curvy in the right places *wink*wink*) and it tickled me to no end that Draco actually previously thought about her weight in his arms...

A favorite part? Had to be this one, "Judging by your weight, Weasley, you have many favorites!" he said, having to run up the stairs to avoid Ginny's physical attack. Which is the follow up line to my last favorite part of your last chapter!

However, that said, I just loved the whole damn thing, and I didn't think anything needed more work, honestly. I was disappointed that Draco didn't let Ginny kiss him and am soooooo curious about why! Wonderful, wonderful update. Thanks so much! -fallenwitch

Hmmm...I am intrigued by the way you've characterized both Draco and Ginny and their angry, passionate, hissing attraction for each other. Of course she wants him to tell her he loves her, but in keeping with the tenor of their relationship, she tells herself and him it doesn't matter. I will stick a toe out over the edge by wondering what the fallout of this engagement will be (because I believe she will say yes - with her family practically shoving her towards him). Is Draco using her to further his goals for his father's release from Azkaban? Yes. Will he fall in the web he's cast for her and find himself head over heels "in love" with her and actually go through with the marriage? One can only hope. And what about this thing with Pansy? He needs her help as well, and while he has genuine warmth and affection for her, I do not believe it is along the lines that Pansy wants it to be. That part of him is already given to Ginny, whether or not he knows it.

On another note, I love the way you've portrayed Draco's relationship with Pansy. It's real and complex and many layered. She doesn't serve the usual one dimensional shrew that we've all seen too many times before. Her relationship with this older wizard is brilliant.

Speaking of brilliant, Draco's messy room was brilliant and befitting the Draco you've created. Somehow, things haven't quite turned out the way his parents had planned. He's in the middle of this mess but finding his way along quite nicely. How fitting that he chose that place to propose to her and that she found it "cosier" and more revealing of the true Draco than any other place in the Malfoy house.

I am also enjoying your writing. It is clear, concise and well-paced. So, that is what I have to say after 22 glorious chapters! I apologize for not reviewing earlier, but in my own self defense, I hopped on the train late - at Chapter 19 to be exact! - fallenwitch

Very sappy. Very fluffy. Terribly OOC. And so not what I like, but I just loved it! What can I say? The after bath pajama scene was incredibly well done - hilarious and touching and "revealing" about everyone's character (Colin and Ginny and Draco)! That's what I love about fanfiction. Anything and everything is possible - so bring it on! -fallenwitch

Author's Response: For some reason my author\'s notes didn\'t show up but in them I actually said something like,\"Yeah, this story is very OOC and Mary-Sueish and sappy.\" I\'m glad you like it anyway. Fanfic really is a wonderful medium. Thanks for reviewing!

Bed Of Lies by Slythhearted    (Reviews - 63)

A harmless romp where by Draco tries to make up for past mistakes, Ginny is unsympathetic, Luna is Luna, and Blaise tries to steal the show.

For someone who is "incapable of writing angst" you've done a pretty good job so far! Everyone is with someone that they are unhappy with, and the relationships are so intertwined no one can move without tripping over someone else. Great start. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and Blaise's character in particular. -fallenwitch
