A fabulous beginning! Your descriptions evoke a rich feeling for the scenes and characters in a few choice words. Can't wait to read the rest of the (slightly edited, I think?) story. Thank you for this lovely Christmas present.
*sigh* Oh, the angst! I love how your writing is so tight, and yet you manage to sneak in little details that amuse and flesh out the story. Such as the arguing gargoyles (so very Hogwarts) and the cheerful patch of sunlight on Ginny's blanket. And of course big "details" like the Marauding Desk! Meanwhile the denial and conflict escalate. *g* I feel for Ginny and her submerged pain, and taking on much more than she bargained for with Malfoy.
Forgot to mention I really enjoy your use of quriky canon items/names like bulbadox powder, Medwin Cadwallader, and Orla Quirke. Makes it seem like it could be part of the original books, or a (heavenly, DG-lovers) version of JKR's Epilogue.

Re my earlier reference to a "recurring anti-cat theme", I meant in this fic. Near the beginning there's this passage: "Draco hated the Leaky Cauldron. It was dim and musty and smelled suspiciously of cat. And Draco hated cats too." Then near the end Draco says " '....Or these ones, here. They mark the exact moment in which you decided you could really live without a cat.' " That's what I meant about the anti-cat theme. Hmm, how interesting that you're a dog-person.... :D
Author's Response: haha, I realised that after I posted the comment. I looked through every other fic I've posted, thinking I've been subconsciously posting anti-cat themes... and then I figured it out. Only it took me a couple of hours! Now I want to write a D/G fic that somehow pertains to cats.
